My analysis
After five straight losses — including the last two games where they were lit up for 50+ points in each — the New Mexico State Aggies broke through with a 33-30 2OT win over Louisiana Tech.
But New Mexico is far from fixed. In fact, it currently ranks 127th of the 133 schools in the FBS in yards per game, putting up just 289 per contest. The Aggies do have an average running attack, churning out 161.9 yards per game.
They’ll likely lean on that ground game against the FIU Panthers, who allow 194.1 yards per game. FIU’s pass defense is tops in C-USA, though, limiting opponents to 184 yards per contest.
The Panthers' offense is slightly less abysmal than NMSU, totaling 308.5 yards per game, with a rush attack putting up just 104.2 yards.
FIU is averaging just 15.5 points per game in four conference meetings. Even with a scoring bonanza last outing, New Mexico has averaged 14.3 points in its four C-USA tilts.
The numbers add up to a low-scoring outing in Miami.

There’s really just one thing the Aggies do that ranks out as average, and that’s run the ball.
Seth McGowan rushed for 66 yards in the win against Louisiana Tech, the second time in his last three games he’s topped his 65.5 rush line for Tuesday. FIU has been getting run over all year, and there’s no indication it will stop now.
It’s been a nightmarish run for FIU pivot Keyone Jenkins. Since injuring his shoulder two weeks ago against Texas El-Paso, he’s been wildly ineffective and was pulled against Sam Houston after nine passes.
Jenkins’ inconsistency is the reason Eric Rivers caught just three balls, breaking a streak where he had at least five catches in four straight games. I think Rivers will suffer as Jenkins struggles to find his form.
