College Football Week 6 Parlay Picks & SGP: Mullings is the Man for Michigan

Ed Scimia believes in a pair of favorites in the ACC in Pitt and Clemson as well as the Mountain West's San Jose State Spartans. Plus, his SGP for Michigan-Washington culminates with an appealing Kalel Mullings prop.

College football may be all about shocking upsets and dramatic comebacks, but for my Week 6 parlay picks, I’m giving the favorites a chance.

The Pittsburgh Panthers should get by the North Carolina Tar Heels, the Clemson Tigers get the opportunity to tee off on an awful Florida State Seminoles team, and the San Jose State Spartans are more than a match for a struggling Nevada Wolf Pack squad.

I’ll look at those bets — plus a same-game parlay for the Michigan Wolverines vs. Washington Huskies contest — in my free college football picks for Week 6.

Best Week 6 parlay

Pitt -2.5

Clemson -14.5

San Jose State -6.5

Pittsburgh is not only a perfect 4-0 on the year, but the Panthers have also covered in each of their games so far this season. That includes twice covering as an underdog against both the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Cincinnati Bearcats.

In contrast, North Carolina has yet to cover this year, and infamously lost by 20 at home to the James Madison Dukes two weeks ago. The Tar Heels aren’t quite that bad, but after losing on the road to the Duke Blue Devils, they’re now riding a two-game losing streak. The Panthers should cover here.

A line of 14.5 points is always a bit scary, as you’re giving just enough to lose a natural two-touchdown game. But while Clemson may no longer be a top national title contender, the Tigers are worlds better than Florida State, which is in disarray.

With only one win on the year and coming off a 26-point loss to the SMU Mustangs, I can’t see the Seminoles staying anywhere near competitive in this one, even at home.

Finally, I’m heading out West, where San Jose State gets a home game against a Mountain West rival in Nevada.

The Spartans are coming off a heartbreaking 54-52 loss at the Washington State Cougars, their first loss of the year after three strong performances to start the season. Still, San Jose State is 4-0 ATS this year and is favored by less than a touchdown against a Nevada team that lost by 27 to the Minnesota Golden Gophers just two weeks earlier.

Best Week 6 SGP

Michigan +1.5

Michigan vs. Washington Under 41.5

Kalel Mullings anytime TD

If you don’t pay close attention to what’s going on across the country in college football, it’s possible that you lost track of Michigan after their lopsided 31-12 loss to the Texas Longhorns about a month ago. Since then, the Wolverines have turned things around with three straight wins, and while none of them have been particularly impressive — with the exception of a nice 27-24 victory over the USC Trojans — Michigan looks to have stabilized and is a contender in the Big Ten.

Meanwhile, Washington has struggled through its recent schedule, dropping two of its last three. The Huskies lost to Washington State and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, two games they would have expected to win. I like Michigan to win outright in this national championship rematch, but I’m taking the points for a little added insurance.

One thing’s for sure about both of these teams: they don’t score a lot of points. Michigan has shown a little more life when they have the ball, averaging 24.8 ppg. However, they’ll be hard-pressed to run up the score against a Washington defense that is holding opponents to just 12.4 points and 249.8 yards per contest.

Washington has only gone above a total of 40 once this year, and I’m taking the Under on Saturday. Still, someone has to score in this game, and there’s no better candidate than Michigan running back Kalel Mullings.

The senior has scored twice in each of his last three games, rushing for at least 111 yards in each of those games. Mullings should continue to be a focal point of the Wolverines offense, which is why I’m picking him to get in the end zone again against Washington.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
