Super Bowl Predictions: Two Records that Chiefs vs. 49ers Could Break

When the Lombardi Trophy is in the building, the star players come out to play. Sometimes records are set, and sometimes they are broken. What we know for certain is that both teams have players capable of achieving immortality. Join me as I break down two Super Bowl records that may get broken in 49ers vs. Chiefs.

Records are meant to be broken. Of course, there are exceptions to that rule like Wayne Gretzky's 2,857 points, Cal Ripken's 2,632 consecutive games played, or Emmitt Smith's 18,355 rushing yards.

Super Bowl records are no different. Big games call on star players to make big plays and etch themselves into Super Bowl history.

Jerry Rice scored three touchdowns in a single Super Bowl...twice. Steve Young threw six touchdown passes in Super Bowl XXIX and Jalen Hurts ran for 70 yards as a quarterback in Super Bowl LVII.

Can any of these seemingly 'untouchable' Super Bowl records be broken this year when the San Francisco 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs?

The Super Bowl odds suggest no, but our 49ers vs. Chiefs predictions believe there is a chance that whatever happens in Vegas can stay in Vegas... for a long, long time.

Two Super Bowl records that could be broken

Super Bowl scoring record: Any Player to score 4+ TDs (+1800 at DraftKings)

There have been seven players in NFL history who have found the endzone three times in one Super Bowl. The aforementioned Jerry Rice (twice), Roger Craig (SB XIX), Ricky Watters (SB XXIX), Terrell Davis (SB XXXII), James White (SB LI) and Jalen Hurts (SB LVII).

San Fransico 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is a prime candidate to join this list for a couple of reasons.

Fresh off winning the Offensive Player of the Year, McCaffrey is the focal point of this 49ers offense. He had an incredible season where in which he racked up 2,023 total yards and 21 touchdowns. The star RB also had one four-touchdown game against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4 and a three-TD game against that same team in Week 15.

Now, in no way, shape, or form am I comparing the Cardinals to the Kansas City Chiefs, but McCaffrey should have a big game against one of the worst-rated run defenses this year.

The Chiefs run defense finished 28th in EPA allowed per handoff and last in run-stop rate, giving up 4.5 yards per carry.

In order to be the champs, you have to beat the champs. For the Niners to do so, they'll need to give McCaffrey the ball as much as possible.

Four touchdowns and an MVP performance (+450 SB MVP) are definitely in the cards for CMC.

Super Bowl QB rushing record: Any QB to record 71+ rushing yards (+1,400 at BetMGM)

There are a lot of great ways to describe Patrick Mahomes, but one that often flies under the radar is opportunistic.

We know Mahomes is a legitimate pocket passer who can improvise and then pick you apart with a dart that only his guy could catch. What we fail to give him credit for is his ability as a scrambling quarterback who can make defenses pay if they are caught sleeping.

While Mahomes isn't going to rush 10 times, his ability to take what the defense gives him could get him outside of the pocket enough times to pick up some nice chunk plays with his feet.

While his single-game rushing mark this year is just 53 yards, when the Lombardi Trophy is on the line, you can be sure Mahomes is going to do whatever it takes to get the job done.

Could he finish with eight yards on two scrambles? Absolutely, but at +1,400, this is a great longshot play.
