The Philadelphia Flyers are suddenly red-hot with three straight wins and a 4-0-1 record in their last five games. On Monday night, they face a tough test as they host the Colorado Avalanche.
Travis Sanheim has been great for the Flyers this season while averaging over 25 minutes per night. He’ll have to step up even more with the injuries piling up on Philadelphia’s blue line.
My Avalanche vs. Flyers predictions expect Sanheim to keep firing in my best NHL picks on Monday, November 18th.
Avalanche vs Flyers prediction
My best bet
Travis Sanheim Over 1.5 Shots (-155 at DraftKings)
My analysis
Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Travis Sanheim has five points in his last two games while playing nearly 28 minutes each night. He’s turned a corner under head coach John Tortorella with the notoriously tough Torts praising the big blueliner’s play.
Sanheim has earned the trust of Tortorella and that’s resulted in at least 27:30 of ice time in each of the last five games. That’s coincided with a five-game streak of at least two shots on goal for the Flyers defenseman.
The left-handed shot plays on both the left and right side for the Flyers and has seen a change in philosophy in recent games. After two straight games with zero shots on goal, and just three attempts, he’s racked up at least five attempts in each of the last five games with a total of 15 shots on goal (30 attempts).
With injuries to Cam York and now Emil Andrae, Sanheim could be elevated to see some power-play time. Whether that’s on the first or second unit, it’ll give the blueliner an extra chance to get some shots on net.
DraftKings is offering the best price here on Sanheim at -155 with him to record 2+ shots as high as -173 (Caesars) as of Monday afternoon.
Avalanche vs Flyers same-game parlay (SGP)
Sanheim and Travis Konecny have been the team’s most valuable defenseman and forward thus far. Konecny is riding a six-game point streak with six goals and six assists in that span to bring him up to 22 points in 18 games on the season.
The Flyers and Colorado Avalanche are two of the worst goaltending teams in the league and it’s expected to be a battle of the backups tonight. This should be a high-scoring affair with both teams scoring at least a few times.
