The Flyers just fired their head coach and have been getting blown out with regularity recently. Expect the Habs to do more damage tonight.

The Montreal Canadiens continue their push for the playoffs as they head to Wells Fargo Center to take on the struggling Philadelphia Flyers, who parted ways with head coach John Tortorella this morning.

The Flyers have dropped 11 of their last 12 games with some bad blowout losses along the way, and I’m expecting the Habs to come out flying with a dominating win in tonight’s crucial contest

I’ll explain why I’m taking the visitors at -1.5 in my Canadiens vs Flyers predictions and NHL picks for Thursday, March 27.

Canadiens vs Flyers prediction

My Canadiens pick: Canadiens -1.5 (+190 at BET99)

My Canadiens analysis
The Montreal Canadiens are holding onto the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference by a thread after losing their last three games. Fortunately for the Habs, they’ll be facing the coldest team in the NHL tonight — the Philadelphia Flyers.

Philly has lost six straight and 11 of its last 12 contests, which prompted the team to fire head coach John Tortorella earlier this morning. The Flyers are coming off back-to-back defeats where they allowed seven goals to the Maple Leafs and Blackhawks, though blowout losses have been a trend for a while now.

Philadelphia has lost by at least two goals in nine of its last 12 games, so generally, these games haven’t been that close. The Flyers have also fallen by 3+ goals in seven games over that span.

Montreal has lost its streak, but it wasn’t that long ago that the Habs were on an 8-1-2 run. Since returning from the 4 Nations Face-Off, the Canadiens have scored 3.43 gpg — the seventh-best rate in the NHL.

Captain Nick Suzuki has had the hot hand with a team-leading 13 points this month and should lead the Canadiens to a comfortable win.

Canadiens vs Flyers same-game parlay (SGP)

Canadiens -1.5

Canadiens team total Over 3.5

Cole Caufield Over 2.5 shots

The Canadiens have scored 4+ goals in five of their last seven games and should be able to do so again vs. the Flyers, who look like they’ve given up on the season. Philadelphia has allowed 3.88 gpg since returning from the 4 Nations Face-Off, which ranks third-worst in the league over that span. Likely starter Samuel Ersson also owns a brutal 4.38 GAA and .830 SV% this month.

Cole Caufield has notched +3 shots on net in three straight games and eight of his last 10. He and the rest of the Habs should have no issue running up the shot clock against the Flyers, who've allowed 29+ shots in each of their last two games.
