The Canucks mustered just one goal in their last game, but tonight's matchup against the Avalanche could be the perfect spot to bounce back.

With losses in three of their last four, the Vancouver Canucks hope to end their six-game homestand on a high note when they host the Colorado Avalanche.

The Avs are rolling, seeking their fifth win in six games Monday — a big reason why Vancouver is a +120 home underdog. And while they've struggled at home, ourCanucks vs. Avalanche predictions expect their offense to produce.

My Canucks analysis
The Vancouver Canucks are coming off a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of the Bruins last time out, dropping them to 2-2-1 on their current homestand. At 5-7-4 at Rogers Arena, Vancouver is tied for the second-fewest home wins in the NHL, just a win better than Utah.

Some of their old habits came back to bite them Saturday night, including allowing the visitors to bring the play to them. Boston outshot the Canucks 16-4 in the first period and earned a 2-0 lead.

It was the first time in four home games they allowed the opening goal. They’ll try to get ahead against the Colorado Avalanche, who are eighth in scoring, putting up 3.31 goals per game. The Avalanche, meanwhile, are coming off a 5-2 whipping of the Predators, bouncing back from a 4-1 loss to Utah.

Colorado has five wins in its last seven and is averaging 4.4 goals in those wins. Where the Avs really cleaned up is on the other end of the rink. The recent acquisitions of goalies Scott Wedgewood and Mackenzie Blackwood have helped solidify the defensive effort.

A Bottom-4 team in goals against (3.47), the Avs are only surrendering 2.57 goals per game through seven December outings. Whoever Colorado puts in between the pipes should be tested, as Vancouver is one of the better offensive units in the league — its 3.21 goals per game sits 12th in the NHL.

Perhaps scoring a single goal in the loss to Boston played a part, but Vancouver has been tabbed with a 2.5-goal team total for Monday. This is a number Vancouver has topped eight times in the last 11 home games and 15 of its last 20 overall.

Only two of Colorado’s seven December opponents have an offense inside the Top 12, so I’m still hesitant to assume the Avalanche’s defensive woes have all been wiped away.

Canucks vs Avalanche odds analysis

Vancouver is 2-7 this season in nine games as a moneyline underdog. The Canucks have alternated between Over and Under results in seven straight games.

Colorado is 10-6 on the road this season, one of five Western Conference teams with double-digit road wins. The Avs are 3-1 in their last four visits to Rogers Arena.

The Under has cashed in three of the last five meetings between these teams.
