Not even an historic comeback — never seen before in the history of the NHL — could preserve the Vancouver Canucks’ flickering playoff hopes.

Left in the role of spoiler, they’ll try to sink the Colorado Avalanche’s chances of moving up in the Central Division standings when they meet on Thursday, April 10.

Even with their playoff hopes deflated, our Canucks vs. Avalanche predictions and NHL picks believe Vancouver will continue to play Colorado tough as it seeks a three-game regular-season series sweep.

Canucks vs Avalanche prediction

My Canucks pick: Under 5.5 (+102 at Pinnacle)

My Canucks analysis
The Vancouver Canucks' remarkable comeback vs. Dallas on Tuesday will go down in the history books, as they came back from 5-2 down with three goals in the final minute of the third period to force overtime.

Kiefer Sherwood’s OT goal secured the win and the valuable points to stay alive.

That excitement was short-lived, however, as Minnesota's absolutely wild 8-7 OT win over the Sharks on Wednesday ended Vancouver’s playoff chances.

Now, the Canucks' motivation is to wrap up this mini-road trip in style and take a third straight from the Colorado Avalanche.

Colorado is already a lock for the playoffs, but Vancouver’s win over Dallas did give the Avalanche hope of potentially catching the Stars for the second seed in the Central.

It would require the Avs to win out and Dallas to lose its final three games, but Colorado’s plate only has one playoff-bound team (the Kings) left, and games against Vancouver and the lowly Anaheim Ducks.

To do that, they have to solve Vancouver goaltender Thatcher Demko.

In two starts against Colorado this year, Demko has allowed just a single goal on 66 shots between the two games. coming away with a 3-1 win on December 16 and recorded a shutout on February 4.

After one of the craziest games we’ve ever seen in NHL history, look for Vancouver to stay to that tight-checking, low-scoring script that’s given it success in this head-to-head.

These teams have cashed the Under in both games this year and in five of the last seven.

Colorado might be the fifth-highest scoring team in the league this year at 3.34 goals per game, but the Under has also gone 5-2-0 in its last seven games.
