Canucks vs Golden Knights Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

The Canucks will try to shake off a discouraging loss in their second game in as many nights. While Vegas may not look like the right opponent for that at first blush, our NHL expert has dug deep and believes there is value with Vancouver.

After a third-period collapse in Utah, the Vancouver Canucks are right back at it Thursday night when they travel to Sin City for a date with the Pacific-leading Vegas Golden Knights.

Vancouver, sitting six points back in the standings with a game in hand, are +150 moneyline underdogs in the NHL odds.

However, they’ve fared well at T-Mobile Arena, which is a big reason why my Canucks vs. Golden Knights predictions and NHL picks are calling for a bounce-back performance on December 19.

My Canucks analysis

Hitting the road for the first time after a so-so 3-2-1 homestand, things looked like road business as usual for the Vancouver Canucks against the Utah Hockey Club with a 2-0 lead after two periods.

But Vancouver surrendered three straight goals, including the clincher in the extra frame, dropping a 3-2 OT decision.

The Canucks usually get the bounces going their way on the road, as they suffered just their fourth road loss of the season and only their second in extra time to drop to 10-2-2 on the year. Vancouver ranks inside the Top 5 in both goals for (3.54) and goals against (2.46) on the highway.

It will be their first time getting a look at the division-leading Vegas Golden Knights, who are on a roll, picking up five wins in their last six. That includes a 3-2 win last time out on the road against the tough Minnesota Wild.

While they’re 13th in goals against on the year (2.94), Vegas has really shut down the opposition of late, allowing two goals or less in each of those wins. They’re among the league’s elite offensively, potting 3.45 goals per contest, which ranks sixth in the NHL.

While Vegas will be fresh, having had three full days off between games, they’ve had their problems with the Canucks, dropping two of the last three head-to-head matchups.

Vancouver has also won three of the last four games in Vegas, with each of those wins coming by at least two goals.

It’s also likely that Kevin Lankinen (illness) will be over the flu and into the net. He’s been literally unbeatable on the road, going 10-0-1 in 11 starts.
