Canucks vs Kraken Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

With Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson potentially sidelined tonight, the Canucks will need someone to step up on offense. Our NHL picks think it will be Brock Boeser.

It’s a battle of two teams that really needed the holiday break, as the Vancouver Canucks host their rivals down the I-5, the Seattle Kraken.

Vancouver snapped a 3-game losing skid just before Christmas and is taking on a Seattle side that has lost five straight. However, injuries to Vancouver’s two leading scorers have thrown a wrench into this matchup.

Our Canucks vs. Kraken predictions and NHL picks focus on sniper Brock Boeser, whose recent play has him in prime position to fill the offensive void.

My Canucks analysis
Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet announced that defenceman and leading scorer Quinn Hughes and forward Elias Pettersson (second in scoring) are both doubtful to play when the puck drops Saturday afternoon at Rogers Arena.

Their injuries have not been disclosed, but both players will be re-evaluated by the medical staff before a final decision is made.

In anticipation of their star players sitting this one out, Vancouver recalled forwards Phillip Di Giuseppe and Max Sasson along with defenceman Guillaume Brisebois from AHL Abbotsford.

Hughes has eight goals and 42 points on the year, while Pettersson has 10 goals and 28 points. He’s also coming off a two-goal effort last game against San Jose to snap a six-game pointless drought.

Vancouver is a team just outside the Top 10 in scoring at 3.15 goals per game and, if healthy, would have the offensive advantage over a Seattle Kraken side that's averaging 2.78 goals per contest and has scored just six goals over its past five games.

Vancouver's depth will be tested, but there are still plenty of contributors on this roster, with four players with 11+ goals and eight others in double-digit scoring on the season.

We'll spotlight Vancouver winger Brock Boeser, who's finally found his scoring form after returning from an upper-body injury. He had just two goals in the first 13 games since rejoining the team in late November. However, he's lit the lamp three times over his last two games.

He’s opened the scoring for Vancouver in each of the last two games and scored the third-period equalizer against Ottawa before the Canucks lost in OT.

The Kraken have allowed 3+ goals in each of the last five games and 22 total during the skid. I like Boeser to stay hot at a time when the Canucks really need his offense.

Canucks vs Kraken odds analysis

Vancouver has dropped four of the last five meetings against Seattle, allowing 4+ goals in each of their losses. Meanwhile, Seattle is 3-6 in its last nine as the moneyline underdog.

The Canucks have gone Over the total in back-to-back games. The Kraken and Canucks have cashed the Over nine times in the last 10 meetings.
