Canucks vs Sabres Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

The Sabres are struggling on both ends of the ice and if Vancouver were proving more adept at scoring, I'd gladly take the Canucks to win by two goals. Instead, the moneyline will suffice as our best bet.

After toppling one of the league’s hottest teams for a much-needed win, the Vancouver Canucks now face the last-place team in the Atlantic, the Buffalo Sabres.

The Sabres have lost three of their last four and are the only team in the Eastern Conference yet to hit the 40-point plateau.

Our Canucks vs Sabres predictions have the home team picking up consecutive wins for the first time since Dec 1. So, get your NHL picks locked in ahead of this 10 p.m. ET puck drop on Tuesday, January 21.

My Canucks analysis

After getting bombed 12-2 in back-to-back losses to the Jets and Kings, the Vancouver Canucks picked up a much-needed 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers, a team that had won four straight.

Vancouver’s offense, which had accounted for six goals in its previous five, scored at least three goals for just the third time over the last eight games. The ‘Nucks are just outside the Bottom 10 in scoring for the season, putting up just 2.84 goals per game.

The win over Edmonton didn’t come without a loss, though, as defenceman Tyler Myers was handed a 3-game suspension for a cross-check to Evan Bouchard's head.

The Buffalo Sabres have struggled like the Canucks, opening this four-game Western road trip with a 6-4 loss to the Seattle Kraken on Monday.

Buffalo has just three wins over its last nine, and keeping the puck out of the net has been an issue, allowing at least four goals in five of the six losses. Allowing three goals or less, they’re a respectable 3-1-0.

That’s been a theme all season, with the Sabres ranking 30th in goals against, giving up 3.43 per contest. Only San Jose and Pittsburgh are worse.

Vancouver has owned this head-to-head, winning four straight and seven of 10.

Buffalo will also be playing the second night of a back-to-back, and it's struggled, going 1-6-0, and dropping five of those decisions by two goals or more.

There are some juicy +153 odds to take Vancouver to win by two goals. If they haven’t had so much trouble scoring of late, that bet is a no-brainer.

For now, taking the win outright is the right play.
