After a lengthy road trip, the Calgary Flames head back to Scotiabank Saddledome as they welcome the streaking Montreal Canadiens, who are 5-0-1 in their last six games.

Nazem Kadri has been an offensive catalyst for Calgary this season as he’s generated a team-leading 210 shots on net – over 60 more than anyone else on the Flames.

While the hosts may have some trouble scoring against a solid Habs defense, I’m betting on Kadri to pile up the shots in my Canadiens vs. Flames predictions and NHL picks for Saturday, March 8.

Flames vs Canadiens prediction

My Flames pick
Nazem Kadri Over 3.5 shots (+120 at BET99)

My Flames analysis
The Calgary Flames concluded a tough six-game road trip on Thursday as they fell 3-2 to the Dallas Stars in overtime, finishing the trip with a 2-2-2 record.

While the Flames scored just two goals per game during the trip, Nazem Kadri stood out as one of the club’s few difference-makers on the offensive side of the puck. The center racked up four points during the six-game span as well as a team-high 21 shots, or 3.5 per game.

Kadri has been particularly fond of shooting the puck since the start of last month as he’s recorded 47 shots dating to February 1. That ranks fourth in the NHL among all skaters over that span and just six shy of David Pastrnak (53) for the league lead.

The Flames pivot has clocked at least four shots in two of his last three games and six of his last 10. Kadri has finished with fewer than three shots just once in his last 12 contests.

The Montreal Canadiens have locked it down defensively during their 5-0-1 run, allowing just 2.17 goals per game over that span. However, the Habs rank 22nd in the league in shots against per game this season (29.0), so Kadri should still get some decent looks.

Flames vs Canadiens same-game parlay (SGP)

Nazem Kadri Over 3.5 Shots on Goal

Montreal ML

Under 6.5

The Flames opened as the home favorite tonight at -135, but it’s hard to ignore what the Canadiens have done over the last couple of weeks.

Montreal’s six-game point streak includes a dominant 4-0 win against the Carolina Hurricanes as well as a narrow 3-2 overtime defeat against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.

With the Habs allowing just 2.17 goals per game during their run and the Flames mired in a scoring slump, I’m inclined to take the visitors in a low-scoring affair.

A low-scoring Calgary squad has also seen Under 6.5 goals scored in eight of its last nine outings.
