The Calgary Flames have played extremely low-event games coming out of the 4 Nations break, with just 15 goals being scored spanning four contests.
My Flames vs. Hurricanes predictions expect that trend to continue with another low-scoring affair in the cards Sunday night.
Let’s dive deeper with my NHL picks for March 2.

My Flames analysis
A matchup between the Calgary Flames and Carolina Hurricanes should be where goals go to die.
The Flames have played in an abundance of low-scoring games, owning a 21-37-1 O/U record to date. The Hurricanes have posted similar numbers, cashing only 24 Overs through the first 60 games of their season.
There isn’t much reason to expect an offensive outburst in this one. The Flames are tied with the Senators and Canucks for last in 5v5 goals over the past 10 games, scoring only 12 in that span.
Calgary is a feisty team but they lack high-end skill and dynamic gamebreakers, which makes finishing a difficult task. That’s unlikely to change against a Hurricanes squad that ranks second in shot suppression at 5v5.
Generating a chunk of shots will be challenging for the Flames, let alone actually converting on them. Luckily, they have a solution to help them keep this game competitive in Dustin Wolf.
The Hurricanes are going through scoring challenges of their own, sitting 24th in 5v5 goals over the last 10 games.
Wolf is plenty capable of making those struggles continue for another game. His season numbers are strong and he’s performed even better of late, ranking seventh among starters in save percentage since the holiday break.
Ilya Sorokin, Jeremy Swayman, Filip Gustavsson, Juuse Saros, and Igor Shesterkin are just a few of the many notables Wolf has out-performed along the way.
Only one of Calgary’s past 10 games has featured more than five goals. Expect that trend to continue Sunday in Carolina.
Flames vs Hurricanes same-game parlay (SGP)
Nazem Kadri is firing shots at will. He’s recorded three or more in eight of his past nine games, including against high-end teams like the Washington Capitals, Toronto Maple Leafs, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Colorado Avalanche.
The Hurricanes are generally not a team to target for shots but Kadri has had no issue piling them up in the past. He has averaged 4.7 shots on goal per game over his last six against Carolina.
The new look Huberdeau-Kadri-Coronato line has really helped elevate Kadri’s shot rates, which gives him a good chance of hitting any given night.
Mikko Rantanen has not produced up to the level expected since the trade but it’s not for a lack of shooting. He leads the Hurricanes in shots on goal and scoring chances during his 10-game tenure.
He’s cleared 2.5 shots in three of four home games since the trade and has a good chance to build on that against Calgary. The Flames rank 20th in shots allowed the past 10 games and are playing their fourth road game in six nights.
