The Vegas Golden Knights will look to snap out of their offensive funk against a New Jersey Devils squad missing several key players.
My Golden Knights vs. Devils predictions see Vegas’ scoring woes coming to an end in a competitive, high-scoring matchup.
Let’s break things down further with my NHL picks for Thursday, February 6.

My analysis
Although the New Jersey Devils have been one of the NHL’s most profitable Under teams this season, there are a few reasons to expect otherwise on Thursday night.
Jonas Siegenthaler suffered an injury in his last game and that will see him sidelined for the foreseeable future. That is a huge loss for New Jersey’s defense as he routinely sees the most difficult matchups available — and excels in them.
Siegenthaler has posted a defensive rating of +9.6 on the season. That is not only the best amongst Devils blueliners, but tops in the entire league.
The Devils are also without their top two goaltenders. Jacob Markstrom has played at an elite level for months and is out with an injury, while Jake Allen — who grades out very well in Goals Saved Above Expectation — is getting another night off after Nico Daws’ winning effort last time out.
While Daws has performed well at this level in spurts, he owns a .895 SV% through 48 career NHL games and has posted pedestrian numbers in the AHL this year. He is not an unbeatable brick wall.
Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights have struggled offensively during their four-game losing skid but they still rank 5th in goals per game on the year and remain healthy. Given as much, it’s only a matter of time before the offense heats up again.
On the flip side, the Devils seem to be getting back on track offensively themselves; they’ve scored at least three goals in five of the last six games. Even without Nico Hischier, they still have enough high-end talent to cause opposing defenses problems.
This should be a competitive game that, perhaps with the aid of an empty-netter, features six goals or more.
Golden Knights vs Devils same-game parlay (SGP)
Timo Meier has been asked to drive his own line in the absence of Hischier. He has done just that, recording at least six attempts in all four games without the captain while clearing 2.5 shots in three of them.
Meier owns a remarkably strong track record against the Golden Knights. Dating back to his days with the Sharks, Meier has piled up 30 shots over his last six games against Vegas.
Jack Eichel has hit the scoresheet in 74% of Vegas’ games this season. He hasn’t gone pointless in back-to-back contests since November.
Given the Devils are dealing with several key injuries to players who would otherwise be tasked with slowing Eichel down, he has a better chance of making noise offensively.
