Jets vs Islanders Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

The Jets were unlucky to lose two straight games, but they don't need much luck to beat a bad Islanders team on the latter half of a back-to-back tonight, per our NHL betting picks.

The Winnipeg Jets are looking to snap a two-game skid at UBS Arena against the New York Islanders on Tuesday, March 4.

My top Jets vs. Islanders predictions and NHL picks break down why Winnipeg will return to the win column with an improved offensive showing and New York in a tough schedule spot.

Jets vs Islanders prediction

My Jets pick
Jets in regulation (-111 at Pinnacle)

My Jets analysis
The Winnipeg Jets have dropped two straight and have been sitting on the second loss since Saturday. They’re a big favorite at UBS Arena, and I’m anticipating the Jets taking care of business in regulation to return to the win column.

Winnipeg was limited to a single goal in both losses despite generating 6.68 expected goals and winning the 5-on-5 possession battle with a 52.3 Corsi For percentage. Scoring twice on 53 shots for a 3.8 team shooting percentage is also further proof of the tough puck luck.

Of course, this is also a terrible schedule spot for the New York Islanders

They were shut out 4-0 by the New York Rangers on Monday with No. 1 Ilya Sorokin in net, and this will also be their third game in four nights.

The Isles will likely turn to backup Jakub Skarek for his second career NHL start, and he sports a career .892 SV% and 3.30 GAA across 159 AHL appearances. Skarek also stopped just 27 of 32 shots in his lone NHL start against the Florida Panthers on the road in early February.

Meanwhile, Winnipeg starter Connor Hellebuyck is running away from the pack in the Vezina Trophy odds, so with the Jets having the superior schedule spot and pending statistical correction ahead offensively, they’re set to succeed at UBS tonight.

Jets vs Islanders odds analysis

There was an immediate — and huge — move to the Winnipeg side of this moneyline at Pinnacle. The shop opened Jets -167 Tuesday morning and moved to -185 within five minutes. This adjustment aligns with my handicap of this game, and I wouldn’t be shocked if there is additional action on the Jets to move the number further to the Winnipeg side.

The total didn’t see the same initial adjustment, with Pinnacle opening at 5.5 (-110/-104) and hardly moving Tuesday morning. I suspect the 5.5 number will stay, too. Neither team has trending dominantly to either the Over or Under this season, and Skarek likely starting for the Islanders makes the Under less attractive. But Winnipeg’s lack of recent offense doesn’t pave the way to the Over, either.
