The Winnipeg Jets welcome the Los Angeles Kings to the Canada Life Centre for a Western Conference showdown tonight.

Winnipeg and No. 1 goalie Connor Hellebuyck have cooled opposing offenses all year in the ‘Peg, and my top Kings vs. Jets predictions are calling for more of the same.

My Jets analysis

The Winnipeg Jets have been a force on home ice, boasting a 15-4-2 record while allowing the second-fewest goals against per 60 minutes at five-on-five (1.52) and the third-fewest per game (2.29). Winnipeg netminder Connor Hellebuyck has also been even better at Canada Life Centre, sporting a .928 SV%, and 1.99 GAA.

On the other bench, the Los Angeles Kings are a ho-hum 9-8-4 on the highway, and they allow 2.95 goals per road game compared to a league-low 1.94 on home ice. Darcy Kuemper has also won three straight at Crypo.com Arena with a .957 SV%, and I’m anticipating negative regression to those inflated numbers.

Of course, there’s also the unfortunate reality that Los Angeles hasn’t played since its 2-1 home win over Tampa Bay. While the Kings should be well rested, their routine will also be thrown off, and too much time off isn’t always a positive.

A big reason LA is so much better on home ice than the road is because of the last-change advantage home teams have. Kings head coach Jim Hiller has an excellent defensive club and can dictate his preferred on-ice matchups at Crypto.com, but he doesn’t have the same luxury on the highway — and it shows in their defensive numbers.

Jets vs Kings odds analysis

Following an initial move to the Los Angeles side of this moneyline, there has been buyback on Winnipeg. The Jets aren't a steep favorite, and given their home-ice dominance, I think we’re landing a fair number considering the Kings' road woes.

The Jets have eclipsed the O/U of 5.5 in four straight, and as noted, the Kings aren’t as strong defensively away from SoCal. However, these are two excellent defensive clubs in front of a pair of dialed-in goalies, so I didn’t pull the trigger on either side.
