The Winnipeg Jets will host the Nashville Predators tonight in a battle between first and worst.

My Predators vs. Jets predictions see Mark Scheifele building on the best first half of his career with another productive outing on home soil.

Let’s break things down further with my NHL picks for December 30.

Jets vs Predators prediction

My Jets pick
Mark Scheifele Over 0.5 assists (-111 at Pinnacle)

My Jets analysis
Mark Scheifele is in the midst of a monster season for the Winnipeg Jets.

He has 22 goals and 22 assists through just 37 games, pacing him for 49 goals and 49 assists over a full schedule. That would be his highest assist output since 2016-17 and the second-best of his entire career.

Scheifele has been very consistent with his playmaking, picking up an assist in more than half of Winnipeg’s games.

The Jets’ star pivot has done his best work on home soil, where his assist rate jumps to 59%. That’s an identical success rate to what he managed in Winnipeg a season ago.

Isolating wins, Scheifele has had an assist in 65% of the games. That is certainly worth noting, as the Jets are trading as home favorites against the Nashville Predators.

The Jets have played lights out at home this season, sporting a remarkable 13-3-1 record in their building. On the flip side, the Predators have had a miserable time on the road, winning just three times in 18 tries away from Nashville.

Although they've played better hockey lately, the bar is quite low. Over the last few weeks, Nashville has allowed 3.22 goals per game and shots at an above-average clip.

With the Jets also having last change, they’ll be able to get Scheifele on the ice in more favorable matchups — increasing the chance he can exploit this vulnerable defensive side.

Jets vs Predators odds analysis

The Jets have won six of the past 10 against the Predators, including three of the past four played in Winnipeg. The market doesn’t seem to care about their strong head-to-head history — or the gulf between the two sides in the standings — as the Jets have shifted from -153 to -125 moneyline favorites at Pinnacle.

Neither team has been kind to Over bettors this season. The Jets have cashed the Over in only 15 of 37 games, while the Preds have done so just 13 times through 36 contests.

As a result, the market is trending toward Under 6.0 goals, with the line shifting from -104 to -111. It is likely to continue in that direction if and when Connor Hellebuyck and Juuse Saros are confirmed as starters.
