The Boston Bruins continue their post-break homestand with a matchup against the Los Angeles Kings at TD Garden on Saturday afternoon. The B’s are NHL odds home favorites despite losing three straight entering this contest.

The Kings have also had some struggles recently that led to Todd McLellan getting the boot. Los Angeles has now won two of its three out of the break, though, and three of its last four overall.

This will be the second and final meeting between these two teams after the Bruins beat the Kings 4-2 in Los Angeles back in October.

Can Boston bounce back at home on Saturday afternoon? Read on for our Kings vs. Bruins NHL picks and predictions on February 17th.

Kings vs Bruins predictions

The Boston Bruins have struggled offensively since the All-Star break. They’ve scored a total of eight goals in their last five games, half of which came in their lone win against the Canucks. They’ve been outscored 10-3 (including a shootout “goal” against) in their last three contests.

"Happy with a lot of parts of our game (on Thursday)," Boston head coach Jim Montgomery said. "We're not getting the results right now, and sometimes you go through that during the season. We've got to stick together, we've got to keep working, keep grinding."

The B’s are going to need to work hard and keep pushing through this rough patch.

"It's going to take some sandpaper goals where it goes off of us or stuff, and that didn't happen," Montgomery said. "We had incredible looks. We hit posts. Those things happen. You have nights like that."

On the other hand, the Los Angeles Kings are seeing a bit of a resurgence with a 3-0-1 stretch, including a 2-1 win in New Jersey on Thursday night. Veteran winger Viktor Arvidsson made his season debut in that game, and although he didn’t record a point, he had five shots on goal and forced Jack Hughes to take matching minors.

"He's just a ball of fire and plays with a lot of passion," Los Angeles coach Jim Hiller said of Arvidsson. "I didn't know how he was going to do. I knew he would show passion, but I thought he played very well for being off that long. Not only was he energetic, but he was dangerous and looked like he hadn't missed a beat."

One of the things these two teams have in common is a propensity to play lower-scoring games. The Under is 30-19-2 in Kings games and 29-25-0 in Bruins games. The total is set at 5.5 tonight -— as it was in the first meeting — with both teams trending heavily to the Under as of late.

There have been five goals or fewer in each of Boston’s five games since the All-Star break. The Kings got blown out 7-0 in Buffalo, but besides that beat the Devils 2-1 and Oilers 4-0 since the break.

These two teams tend to limit chances against as well. The Kings have the fifth-best xGA/60 (2.36) at 5-on-5 this season, per Natural Stat Trick, with Boston in the top half as well at 2.53.

My best bet: Under 5.5 (-106 at FanDuel)

Under 5.5

The Under 5.5 is our best bet and we’re going to use that to anchor our same-game parlay as well.

The Boston Bruins are known for being a great home team but they haven’t lived up to that recently. This should be a close game in Boston on Saturday afternoon and L.A. doesn’t mind playing close games.

The Kings have gone to overtime 10 times and the Bruins don’t tend to pull away from teams too often. This same-game parlay covers a Kings’ low-scoring win as well as the potential 2-1 or 3-2 loss with overtime as a real possibility.
