Kings vs Stars Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

The Los Angeles Kings travel to Dallas to take on the Stars on Friday night. With both teams among the best at keeping the puck out of the net, Neil Parker believes the Kings' plus-money price is too good to pass up.

It’s a powerhouse Western Conference clash at the American Airlines Center on Friday, February 28, with the Los Angeles Kings visiting the Dallas Stars.

Both clubs are battling for playoff positioning down the stretch, and my top Kings vs. Stars predictions and NHL picks expect Los Angeles to pull off a big upset in Big D tonight.

My analysis
At first glance, the Los Angeles Kings sporting a 12-14-5 road record stand out as a postseason-bound team battling for the top spot in the Pacific Division.

It’s been more poor puck luck on the highway than anything for Los Angeles, though.

The Kings pace the NHL in expected goals percentage (55.8%) and rank third with a 53.9 Corsi For percentage at five-on-five on the road. And, they also allow the fewest expected goals per 60 (2.13) at 5-on-5 while also leading the way with an 84.9 penalty-kill percentage on the road.

Turning to the Dallas Stars, while they’ve treaded water without No. 1 defenseman Miro Heiskanen (knee) to the tune of a 5-2-1 record, there are glaring warning signs at 5-on-5.

With Heiskanen Without Heiskanen
5-on-5 CF% 51.7 (8th) 47.9% (20th)
5-on-5 xGF%

52.9% (7th)

50.5% (12th)
5-on-5 GA/60 2.14 (9th) 3.48 (28th)
5-on-5 xGA/60 2.45 (20th) 2.97 (30th)

There’s value backing the Kings as a decent-sized underdog on the road with both clubs eyeing the highlighted respective statistical correction.

Kings vs Stars same-game parlay (SGP)

LA Kings ML

Under 6.5 goals

Kevin Fiala 3+ shots on goal

I’m expecting the Kings to do the heavy lifting for this Under because of their highlighted defensive success on the road. Even with the noted Dallas defensive dip, I’m also not expecting Los Angeles to fill the net, either.

The Stars have climbed to 31.3 shots against per game while allowing 65.7 attempts per 60 minutes without Heiskanen, which is way up from their respective 26.6 and 55.2 marks with him in the lineup.

As a result, I’m eyeing Kings winger Kevin Fiala in shots market. He’s recorded three or more shots in six of his past seven games and paces the club in both shots and attempts per 60 minutes for the season.
