Maple Leafs vs Oilers Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Zach Stacks Shots in Edmonton

The Maple Leafs are slumping, and defense has been a problem both early and late in games. Zach Hyman has been front-and-center during the Oilers' latest hot streak, and our NHL betting picks expect him to keep rolling.

Latest NHL Picks

We’ve got eight games on the NHL betting slate tonight, including an All-Canadian clash between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Edmonton Oilers.

The NHL odds suggest a high-scoring affair could be in order with a matchup featuring two of the league’s top superstars in Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid. However, I’ve got my eye on the Zach Hyman odds tonight as he takes on his former club and hometown team.

Maple Leafs vs Oilers odds

Maple Leafs vs Oilers predictions

We’ve got a big game out in Western Canada tonight as the Edmonton Oilers look to continue their winning streak when they host the struggling Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Leafs enter tonight as losers of three straight games where the team has given up a lead each time. Meanwhile, the Oilers are the NHL’s hottest team, with a franchise record of 10 straight wins entering tonight’s matchup.

Toronto has been an extremely unpredictable team this season, which has made them tough to bet on. However, one thing that has been constant in their games is the number of shots the Leafs are giving up to their opponents.

The Leafs rank 21st in the NHL in shots allowed per game, surrendering an average of 31.2 a night. Enter the Oilers, the No. 1 volume-shooting team in the league this season, and we’ve found an advantage in the betting market to wager on.

During Edmonton’s win streak, the team is averaging 34.6 shots per game and has registered more than 40 shots in three of its last four games.

Enter Zach Hyman.

Surprisingly, it’s Hyman and not Connor McDavid, who leads the way for the Oilers with 145 shots on net through 38 games, for an average of 3.81 per game.

Hyman’s shot prop total tonight sits at 3.5, and it’s a number he’s been able to surpass in four of his last five games since the turn of the calendar.

The former Maple Leafs forward has been elevated to a role alongside McDavid on the Oilers’ top line while also featuring on the first power play unit. This has seen his ice time grow to over 20 minutes per game over his last 13 contests (20:28 per game). Over that same 13-game stretch, Hyman is averaging 4.23 shots a night, registering four or more in eight of the 13 games.

Plus, who doesn’t love a good revenge narrative? Hyman enjoyed being a Maple Leaf and could be extra motivated to play against his former team and try to throw everything on net to pot in a goal or two and help his new club win.

My best bet: Zach Hyman Over 3.5 shots on goal (-120 at SIA)

Maple Leafs vs Oilers same-game parlay

Zach Hyman Over 3.5 shots on goal

Under 8.5

Oilers to win from behind

For Leg 1 of my same-game parlay, I’ll pair my Hyman shots prop with an anytime goal from the former Maple Leaf. He’s having an incredible campaign with 26 goals on the season and five in as many games since the New Year. With him playing on the top line alongside McDavid, along with top power play time, look for him to get on the score sheet again tonight and pad his team lead in goals.

Next up, I like the Under on the alternate total of 8.5 goals. The books are expecting a high-scoring affair, but the total is so high that there’s actually decent value on buying up to the alternate total of 8.5, which would be 9-1 over the last 10 meetings between these two clubs.

The Oilers have limited opponents to two or fewer goals in eight straight games, with the Under hitting in six of those contests. The Leafs have seen eight or fewer goals in nine of their last 10 games as well.

For my final leg, let’s roll with the Oilers to win from behind. The Leafs have scored first in 23 of their 41 games this season (56%), including four of their last five games. However, holding leads has been a problem for this club in three straight games.

The Oilers have the third-best win rate in the NHL when giving up the first goal, with a 9-8 record. Toronto may strike early again, but my faith in them holding the lead is low against this Oilers club.

Maple Leafs vs Oilers moneyline and Over/Under analysis

The Maple Leafs come into tonight as +125 road dogs, with the Oilers entering as the favorites at -150 odds. The Oilers are hoping to extend their franchise-long winning streak to 11 games with a win tonight. They’ve gone 20-6 on the moneyline since the coaching change to Kris Knoblauch and have gotten much better goaltending since then. However, the Leafs have had the edge in this matchup lately, winning seven of the last nine meetings.

The total for tonight’s game is sitting at 7, with the favored side being the Under at -115 while the Over is offering -105 odds. Edmonton has been solid in its own end of late, holding their opponents to two or fewer goals in eight straight games. They’ve also hit the Under in six of those last eight games, while the Leafs have gone Under in five of their last eight as well.
