It’s a Stanley Cup Final rematch at Amerant Bank Arena on Thursday, February 27, and the Edmonton Oilers are looking to snap a four-game losing streak by topping the reigning champion Florida Panthers.

My top Oilers vs. Panthers predictions and NHL picks for tonight’s clash are headlined by Edmonton superstar Leon Draisaitl.

Oilers vs Panthers prediction

My Oilers pick
Leon Draisaitl Over 2.5 shots (-135 at BET99)

My Oilers analysis
Edmonton Oilers star Leon Draisaitl has recorded three or more shots in 16 of 21 games since the calendar flipped to January and 38 of 58 for the campaign.

He sports a high-end 58.6 Corsi For percentage and 59.5% shot share at 5-on-5, and paces the Oil in overall shots and attempts and in both per 60 metrics with the man advantage as the go-to shooter on the No. 1 power-play unit.

I also value Draisaitl averaging a monster 21:36 of ice time per game, including 3:20 on the PP to help him rank in the 98th percentile among forwards in shots on goal.

The elephant in the room is the daunting matchup against the Florida Panthers, with the Cats allowing just 27.0 shots per game and ranking second with a 55.4 CF% at 5-on-5.

Still, Draisaitl and the Oilers are on the ropes with a four-game losing streak, and the go-to scorer was able to record 3+ shots in four of the seven Stanley Cup Final games against the Panthers last spring.

I’m anticipating more time and space being available for No. 29 in blue tonight, especially with Florida likely matching up No. 1 center Aleksander Barkov against five-time Art Ross winner Connor McDavid at even strength.

Oilers vs Panthers same-game parlay (SGP)

Oilers +1.5

Under 6.5

Leon Draisaitl Over 2.5 shots

Must-win games in February are rare, but this might just qualify, and I'm anticipating a big-time effort from the Oilers on Thursday. They’ve dropped four in a row while allowing 22 goals during the skid.

The Panthers are a sound defensive team with the 12th-fewest goals against per game (2.85) and have played to the Under in 31 of their last 55 home games (+6.35 units / 10% ROI). Similarly, the Oil have hit the Under in 30 of their last 54 road contests (+5.80 units / 10% ROI).

As a result, I’m anticipating a low-scoring result with Edmonton covering the puck line. If opting for the Edmonton moneyline instead, this SGP jumps to +600.
