The Edmonton Oilers welcome the rolling Detroit Red Wings to Rogers Place on Thursday, January 30, with the two clubs both sporting three-game winning streaks.
Edmonton is a tough matchup for Detroit, and my Red Wings vs. Oilers predictions and NHL picks expect the Oil to make it four in a row convincingly tonight.

My Oilers analysis
While the Detroit Red Wings are soaring with an 11-3-1 run, a date with the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place sets up as a rally stopper. Even during Detroit’s surge, Edmonton checks out as the better 5-on-5 statistical team.
Header 1 | ![]() |

---|---|---|
Corsi For percentage | 55.0% (third) | 51.0% (16th) |
Goals percentage | 56.1% (seventh) | 49.1% (18th) |
Expected goals percentage | 58.8% (first) | 48.4% (21st) |
Additionally, the Red Wings leading the league with an unsustainably high 38.0 power-play percentage has been a big reason for their recent success. Detroit has also only played nine of the 15 games at home and has gone a ho-hum 3-2-1 on the highway.
Detroit has a 9-10-3 road record for the year, while Edmonton is 18-8-1 at home.
Edmonton has also put a slow start in the rearview mirror with its own 22-6-1 heater and is quickly closing in on the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.
The Oilers check out statistically during the run, too, with a seventh-ranked 52.8 CF% and second-ranked 55.9 xGF% at 5-on-5. Edmonton has also been excellent on special teams, with a third-ranked 31.0 PP% and a fourth-ranked 84.1 penalty-kill percentage.
Edmonton No. 1 Stuart Skinner is also set to return to the crease, and he’s 10-2 with a .928 SV% and 2.09 GAA at Rogers Place during the highlighted stretch.
I also hear those Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl guys are alright.
Oilers vs Red Wings same-game parlay (SGP)
The Oilers have played to the Under in four of their past five games, and a big reason they’ve been so successful during the highlighted run has been solid defense in front of excellent goaltending.
Additionally, alongside the strong work on the penalty kill, Edmonton has also allowed the eighth-fewest goals per 60 (2.15) and seventh-fewest expected goals per 60 (2.28) at 5-on-5.
It’s rinse and repeat with Draisaitl in the shots market. He’s recorded three or more shots in 17 of his past 23 games and moves the needle at 5-on-5 and with the man advantage.
Draisaitl paces the Oilers in power-play shots while sporting a high-end 59.1 CF% at 5-on-5 and ranking in the 95th percentile of forwards in offensive-zone time at even strength.
Finally, Detroit also allows a healthy 29.0 shots per game, including the ninth-most shots to opposing centers (10.57).
