The Edmonton Oilers find themselves in an 0-2 hole in the Stanley Cup Final, and the Florida Panthers can pull within a game of winning it all on June 13.
Florida goalie Sergei Bobrovsky has been the story of the series, stopping 50 of 51 shots, but my Panthers vs. Oilers predictions expect a little more pop from Edmonton in Game 3. Find out why in my NHL picks below.

Panthers vs Oilers prediction
My best bet
Both teams to score 2+ goals (-139 at Sports Interaction)
My analysis
The Edmonton Oilers have been a different team on home ice during the postseason, with 4.0 goals per game and 3.49 expected goals per 60 minutes compared to respective 2.55 and 2.64 marks on the road.
The injury to Florida Panthers center Aleksander Barkov (undisclosed) could also be a huge blow after he left Game 2 following a high hit from Leon Draisaitl with no return.
Additionally, Edmonton goalie Stuart Skinner hasn’t been sharp, with a .889 SV% to start the series. He’s allowed five goals, and Florida has only generated 4.34 expected goals. I don’t anticipate a huge improvement from Skinner: a run-of-the-mill goaltender with a .903 SV% dating back to the regular season.
On the flip side, Panthers No. 1 Sergei Bobrovsky is rolling along an unsustainable heater. His .980 SV% and 1.77 goals saved above average per 60 minutes in the Stanley Cup Final have screaming statistical correction ahead. Plus, the Oilers haven’t scored at 5-on-5 or on the power play yet.
I’m anticipating more of the same from the Florida offense, Edmonton defense, and Skinner in net, while the Oilers have a better offensive showing on home ice with two or more goals against Bobrovsky in Game 3.
Panthers vs Oilers same-game parlay (SGP)
The Oilers moneyline and Panthers Over 1.5 goals correlate with the best bet, and the Under 2.5 first-period goals is a nice odds booster.
I’m expecting the Edmonton offense to have more success with Bobrovsky eyeing the noted statistical correction. Additionally, the Oilers continuing to go scoreless at 5-on-5 is likely to be short-lived given their average of 4.0 goals per game on home ice during the postseason.
There have only been 25 first-period goals through 19 Florida playoff games, and I’m not anticipating a slew of early goals in Game 3, either.

Panthers vs Oilers opening odds
- Puck line: Florida +1.5 (-250) | Edmonton -1.5 (+195)
- Moneyline: Florida +105 | Edmonton -125
- Over/Under: Over 5.5 (-115) | Under 5.5 (-115)
Panthers vs Oilers moneyline and Over/Under analysis
- There was early action on the Edmonton moneyline at Pinnacle, with the Oilers opening as a -117 favorite and moving all the way to -135 Tuesday morning.
- While Edmonton returning home definitely contributed, the uncertain status of Barkov (undisclosed) for Game 3 also has huge implications because he’s one of the few players in the league who could move prices in the moneyline market.
- The total hasn’t seen any early meaningful adjustments, with the 5.5 through SIA still at the opening prices, and the Under carrying the higher vig (-115).
- With just eight total goals through the first two games, I don’t anticipate the Over receiving a lot of support, either.
