The Houston Rockets visit the Utah Jazz tonight as the teams meet for the first time this season.
Houston defeated Minnesota on Friday to win its first game post-All-Star break, while Utah was blown out by Oklahoma City.
My Rockets vs. Jazz predictions expect Houston to keep the momentum going behind strong offensive performances from Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks.
Read my NBA picks to see why you should take the Over on that pair of Rockets’ player props.
Rockets vs Jazz prediction
My best bet
Jalen Green Over 24.5 points (-110 at bet365)
My analysis
Jalen Green leads the Houston Rockets in scoring this season at 21.5 points per game, and he’s set to have another strong night in the scoring column against one of the Association’s most generous defenses.
The Jazz rank 28th in defensive rating this season at 118.3, but they’ve been even worse over their last 10. In that span,
The Utah Jazz has a defensive rating of 120.3, and the team surrendered a whopping 124.3 points, up from the 119.6 they’ve surrendered on the season as a whole.
Green has played both guard positions this season, and he’s seen more run at PG with Fred VanVleet sidelined. No matter what position he’s occupying in Houston’s backcourt, he’ll be set up for success.
The Jazz have allowed opposing SGs to score 26.3 points per game across the last seven, good for second-most. The Jazz have also surrendered 28.5 points per game to opposing PGs across their last 15.
Green has been a far better scorer on the road than at home this season, averaging just 19.2 points in Houston compared to 23 points in all other locales. He’s gone for at least 25 in 22 of 56 contests this season, but he’s fresh off a 35-point performance in Friday’s win over the Wolves.
Over the last two seasons, Green has scored 25 or more points against the Jazz in four of seven contests and at least 30 points three times. We can take those numbers with a grain of salt, as he scored three points in 19 minutes and seven points in 28 minutes for two of those games.
We can expect a full workload from Green tonight, and a 25-point outing is in the cards. He’s playing on the road in a favorable matchup with a team he’s had great success against in recent meetings. I’m taking the Over.
Rockets vs Jazz same-game parlay
Neither team has been particularly high-scoring this season, but the Rockets and Jazz have averaged a combined 225.1 points per game. They’re not too far off of tonight’s point total, and I’m counting on plenty of points at Delta Center tonight.
The Jazz have improved their scoring average from 112.2 to 117.2 across their last 10, but their defense has gotten even worse. Houston should have no problem putting up points in this one, and Utah can find success with its (mostly) healthy roster.
Dillon Brooks has hit at least two triples in seven straight matchups and knocked down multiple three-pointers in 36 of 53 games this season. I could add Brooks’ alternate three-pointer line to this parlay at two, but I’m happy to take it at three and beef up our odds.
Brooks has hit three triples in 19 games this season, including 11 on the road. The Jazz have allowed the second-most three-pointers this season (14.6), and Brooks should have no problem cashing here.
