Can anybody stop the Florida Panthers? The team with the second-best points total is on a nine-game winning streak and are in the Motor City to face the Detroit Red Wings.
The Red Wings are out of the race and playing for nothing more than pride. They are fresh off being shut out by the New York Rangers on Saturday and have lost three of their last four.
Can Detroit cool off the red-hot Panthers, or does Florida get its 10th straight, tying Pittsburgh for the longest winning streak this season?

Panthers vs Red Wings picks and predictions
Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.
Puck line analysis
This has all the makings of a blowout for several reasons. The Panthers are on a crazy nine-game winning streak and with a win over the Red Wings on Sunday, can tie the season record of 10.
Oddsmakers certainly seem to think the Panthers are going to cruise to a victory. The moneyline opened at -278 for the Panthers and has climbed as high as -312 at DraftKings. Obviously, there is no value in backing Florida there, but the puck line of -1.5 is very attractive at -110.
Another reason for taking that wager is Florida’s record against Detroit. The Panthers absolutely own them and in their last meeting on March 5, easily covered the 1.5 goals in a 6-2 win.
If there is a power play, the Panthers are converting at 24.1%, good for sixth in the league. The Red Wings' penalty-killing unit is 30th in the NHL at 74.3%.
Home is no refuge for the struggling Red Wings. They are 1-5 in their last six games at Little Caesars Arena. The Panthers, though, are 16-5 in their last 21 road games.
Over/Under analysis
It’s a little surprising that when these two teams meet, the Under is usually the winner. The Under is 5-1 in the last six meetings in Detroit, and 9-2 in the last 11 when they have faced each other.
I am going to be a contrarian here and go with the Over. The reason I'm leaning that way is because of the results of both Florida and Detroit. The Over is 10-1-3 in the last 14 games for the Panthers. They have scored four or more goals in eight of their last nine games.
The Red Wings have also been very accommodating to opposing teams. They have allowed four or more goals in six of their last nine games. Another factor that I believe will influence the total is that Detroit is in the second game of a back-to-back. They lost on Saturday to the New York Rangers, 4-0.
When the Red Wings play with no day off, the Over is 8-2.
Prediction: Over 7 (+105 at BetMGM)
Best bet
This game seems almost too good to be true from a betting angle. You have the red-hot Panthers on a day’s rest facing the non-playoff bound Red Wings, who just got shut out by the Rangers less than 24 hours ago.
This has all the makings of a trap game, but I don’t think Florida will get lulled into complacency. They will probably start backup goalie Spencer Knight, but that might even be better than having starter Sergei Bobrovsky play in his third straight game.
Knight has played in a healthy amount of games this season. In 29 appearances, he has a 2.83 GAA and a .906 SV%, good for 25th amongst NHL goalies. His last game was eight days ago when he got the win in the team’s 4-1 victory over Nashville.
The Panthers' offense is sure to help Knight out. The team is first in goals for at 4.16 per game and are led by Jonathan Huberdeau, who is having a career year. The left-winger is second in the NHL in points 108 (30 goals, 78 assists). Forwards Aleksander Barkov and Anthony Duclair also boast 30+ goals on the season.
The Red Wings’ defense doesn’t expect to slow the Panthers down. They are ranked second-last in GAA at 3.27 per game.
Pick: Panthers -1.5 (-110 at DraftKings)
