The Dallas Stars will take on the Florida Panthers in an overseas battle between two of the NHL’s best teams tomorrow when these two face off in Nokia Arena at 1:00 p.m. ET on the NHL Network.
My Panthers vs. Stars predictions see the Cats flexing their muscles and showing why they’re a real threat to repeat.
Let’s break things down further in my NHL picks for Friday, November 1.

My analysis
Aleksander Barkov has played only three games for the Florida Panthers, while Matthew Tkachuk has suited up in six of 11. That means their best two-way forwards and play drivers have combined to miss 13 of a possible 22-man games.
Even so, the Cats own a 7-3-1 record and strong underlying numbers across the board. They’ve controlled 54.76% of the scoring chances across all game states, which is the sixth-highest mark in the NHL.
The Dallas Stars don’t possess the same kind of underlying profile. Their scoring chance share sits at 51.63% through nine games, while they haven’t held their head above water in terms of expected goals.
Dallas has actually given up more chances than it's created but has been bailed out by .933 SV%. Even with a strong tandem featuring Jake Oettinger and Casey DeSmith, those numbers are simply not sustainable.
It’s also worth noting the Stars have played a very soft schedule. They’ve faced only one team sitting Top 15 in the standings — the Capitals — and they came out on the losing end.
Hockey-Reference’s strength of schedule metric indicates the Stars have faced the easiest schedule in the NHL thus far. The Panthers are at the other end of the spectrum, having played the sixth toughest.
Florida is likely to control the run of play in this game. If the Stars’ goaltending comes down to earth at all against a high-powered offense, the Panthers will be in good shape.
Panthers vs Stars same-game parlay (SGP)
If Carter Verhaeghe didn’t have bad luck he’d have no luck at all. He's found the back of the net only twice through 11 games but it certainly isn’t for a lack of trying.
Verhaeghe has amassed 46 scoring chances, 45 shots on goal, and 4.4 expected goals this season. That has unluckily translated to just two tallies. Verhaeghe scored 42 goals in 2022-23 while generating 11.98 scoring chances per 60 minutes across all situations.
He found the back of the net 34 times last season while piling up 12.22 scoring chances per 60 minutes. Verhaeghe actually ramped things up a notch in the early going of this season, recording a career-high 12.86 scoring chances per 60 minutes. The problem is he’s converting on only 4.44% of his shots.
He's never scored on fewer than 13.82% of his shots. Unless he lost two thirds of his shooting skill overnight, regression will kick in for him in a big way sooner rather than later.
The Panthers have played very high-octane games thus far, averaging a combined 6.6 goals per game.
