Things didn't go as planned last night on the ice with the stacks continuing to come up short over the last four days. It’s another day, though, and I’m looking at a few other markets for value on the NHL’s eight-game slate.

These are my three favorite NHL player props for Tuesday, January 28.

NHL prop picks and best bets for January 28

Today’s NHL prop picks and best bets

Jiri Kulich 3+ shots on goal (+170 at bet365)

Buffalo Sabres forward Jiri Kulich finally has some markets open and that is always good news for first-line centers who have totaled 17 shots on goal over four games since returning to the lineup.

The matchup is elite, too. He is at home, which gives him the last change and the easier matchups. He is also facing the Boston Bruins, who are allowing over 35 shots per game this month, the second-highest rate in hockey. With the loss of Charlie McAvoy on the back end, the Bruins have been giving up shots at an alarming rate.

Since Kulich just got markets added, books aren’t pricing him efficiently. I like him for 3+ SOG at +170, 4+ at +450, and 5+ at +1000. He is coming off a seven-shot game on the road vs. the Oilers and had a six-shot game in his first game back from injury. His shooting rates are nearly identical to Tage Thompson's, who is -165 for 3+ SOG tonight. It’s ladder time.

Mikko Rantanen 4+ SOG (+185 at bet365)

This seems like too drastic of a price adjustment for Mikko Rantanen in his new home as he regularly had a SOG total of 3.5 while in Colorado. Now, he goes to a Carolina Hurricanes team that has dominated the shot-attempt differential for multiple years and playing on a line with Sebastian Aho, who has been more pass than shoot this year.

Rantanen finished his first game with the Canes with five shots on net in seven attempts, leading the team in both. He got two on net on the power play after beginning the game on PP2 before a PP1 promotion.

The Canes take on the New York Rangers, who sit Bottom-10 in shots allowed this month and the only way to beat Igor Shesterkin right now is to not be cute and get pucks on the net. There is a little ladder potential to 5+ SOG here at +400.

Cole Perfetti + Vladislav Namestnikov Over 0.5 points (+450 at bet365)

It wouldn’t be a good condensed card without one stack and I think I’ve found a good one in the Winnipeg Jets’ second line of Cole Perfetti and Vladislav Namestnikov for +450.

There is a lot to like here. First is the price, which is hard to find for any second-line combo even on PP2.

The next thing is it’s a second line on the road. They will get some decent matchups vs. the Montreal Canadiens, who have started to revert to their losing ways. Perfetti is coming off a hat trick vs. Utah just two games ago and Namestnikov has three assists over his last three games. It’s not massive production but +450 is worth it tonight.

Montreal is going with Sam Montembeault tonight in net. He has a sub-900 save percentage over his last 10 games. It’s a longshot, but Winnipeg could be flirting with five goals and the Jets’ secondary scoring is elite.
