The Utah Hockey Club and Pittsburgh Penguins will meet tonight as both teams are trying to avoid extending their respective losing streaks. Utah has lost two straight games, while the Penguins have lost three straight, and have only tallied one goal in each of those three games.
Offense has been hard to come by for both of these teams as we dive into how that impacts my Penguins vs. Utah Hockey Club predictions.

My analysis
The Pittsburgh Penguins are about to play their seventh straight game on the road. Through their first six games of the trip, the Pens are 2-4-0 and have been averaging just 2.33 goals per game in that span. Outside of the first line, Pittsburgh hasn’t gotten a wide spread of production. Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust each have five points during the road trip, with Rickard Rakell adding four, but other than that, it’s been hard to find some scoring.
On the flip side, the Utah Hockey Club have been defending pretty well on their own end, only giving up 2.40 goals against during their last five games and have an 81.8% successful penalty kill in that span as well. Utah hasn’t confirmed who their starting goalie is for tonight and it’s difficult to assume who will be in net since they have been rotating between Connor Ingram and Karel Vejmelka.
Vejmelka has played the majority of the last 10 games (6 starts), but Ingram has put up slightly better numbers despite only having four starts. In his last six starts, Vejmelka is 2-4-0 with a .903 save percentage and a 2.55 goals against average, he’s also earned one shutout. Ingram is 2-2-0 in his last four starts, skating to a .908 save percentage and a 2.52 goals against average.
Utah has been one of the better teams in the NHL at defending at 5v5, only surrendering 9.56 high-danger chances against per 60 minutes, which is the sixth best mark in the league. The Penguins have only scored two even-strength goals in their last three games, both of which were scored by Sidney Crosby.
Utah has been a much better offensive team than the Penguins as of late, but their last two games have been a bit of a struggle as they’ve only scored three goals in those two games combined.
