The Ottawa Senators were able to get back in the win column Saturday afternoon, picking up a much-needed two points against the rival Boston Bruins in a wild back-and-forth affair.
My Senators vs. Devils predictions see more offense in the cards on Sunday, which is usually the case when these two sides square off.
Let’s break things down further with NHL picks for Sunday, January 19.

My Senators analysis
The Ottawa Senators played in a barn burner Saturday afternoon, grinding out a 6-5 victory over the rival Boston Bruins.
I don’t expect the total to reach those heights on Sunday but I do see value in backing the Over in this game.
The New Jersey Devils have defended very well this season but we’ve seen some slippage in their game of late, which coincides with winning just two of their past 10 games.
They have given up 3.05 expected goals per 60 minutes, putting them in company with the Sabres and Rangers.
Their penalty kill has struggled as well, giving up five goals on just 12 opportunities over the past handful of games. There are some avenues the Senators are capable of exploiting to create offense.
On the flip side, the Devils have underperformed offensively of late. They haven’t generated chances at the same clip as much of the year but this is a team that ranks Top 3 in expected goals generated on the season. They also rank just outside the Top 10 in goals per game. They have it in them to score.
Struggling or not, the Devils are likely to pose problems for Anton Forsberg. He has allowed at least three goals in eight consecutive games and he hasn’t played in 10 days, which is a fairly long layoff in between appearances.
The Devils should be able to score their fair share of goals, pushing the Senators to open up offensively and fight fire with fire — much like we saw against the Bruins yesterday.
Seven of the past eight meetings between these two teams have featured at least six goals. Look for that trend to continue in this one.
Senators vs Devils odds analysis
There hasn’t been much of a shift on the moneyline since opening. The Devils moved from -186 to -190 but the market quickly bought back on the Senators and the current odds sit within two cents of the opening line.
Despite the home team’s recent struggles, they still sit tied for 6th in the NHL in points and are being respected accordingly in the market.
The total has also held firm, with the Under opening at +103 and moving just three cents to an even +100.
With stars like Brady Tkachuk, Tim Stutzle, Jack Hughes, Jesper Bratt, and Nico Hischier, I expect the market to proceed with caution on the Under – even with both teams playing in tight games so frequently.
