Both clubs head into this Champions League meeting after huge results over the weekend. With Tuesday’s game being so important I’m expecting this match to at least start in cagey fashion, which is why my best bet is for the game to be a draw at halftime — something you can get at +125.
So far through three games we’ve seen Dortmund drawing at halftime twice with the only exception being their 1-0 win over Tuesday’s opponents Newcastle, and that game saw Felix Nmecha score in the added time at the end of that first half.
Given what we saw from both teams over the weekend it makes sense that we’ll see a tight, cagey first half, especially with three huge points on the line. Dortmund were outclassed by Bayern Munich and struggled to match the movement and speed of the Bavarian’s attack, which tore the Dortmund defense apart before finding Harry Kane to finish off the moves.
That was the first defeat of Dortmund’s season in the Bundesliga and it’ll be key for them to focus on defense in this match. Dortmund needs to ensure they start the game tight and can’t allow Newcastle to get on the front foot like Bayern on Sunday.
On the flip side of that, we saw on Sunday the blueprint Newcastle use for big games. They welcomed a tough Arsenal team to St James’ Park in a massive matchup and used their defensive strength to neutralize Arsenal.
Newcastle sat back and played cautiously in the first half, using their abilities on the counter to attack. As it got further into the game they opened up going forward which ultimately led to their second-half winner. I imagine we’ll see something similar here with Eddie Howe looking to keep things tight to start the game before pushing on in the second half.

These are two good attacking teams as their league records suggest. Dortmund have averaged two goals per game, scoring 20 in just 10 games, while Newcastle have bagged 27 goals in 11 games — a fantastic return.
Given what’s on the line with qualification for the next round, if either team scores then they’ll open the floodgates and the other team will need to go for broke.
Finally, I'm backing Callum Wilson to score. He’s scored six times in seven Premier League games and has the tools to cause Dortmund serious issues. If anybody is going to score for the Toon Army then it’s likely to be him.

I’m confident this game will be tied at halftime, but when it comes to predicting the outcome after 90 minutes I’m far less sure. The draw at full time is priced at +260, but you can get either Dortmund or Newcastle at +155. For me, it's a coin toss so I’d personally avoid betting on the full-time moneyline.
One thing we know is that the bookies are expecting a high-scoring game with Over 2.5 goals at -133 and both teams to score at -167. Both teams to score is probably too short of a price for me to want to bet at -167 while the total goals market is tough too. I think the Under at +110 probably offers better value than hitting the Over at -133.
