Brentford vs Brighton Picks and Predictions: Potter's Exit Doesn't Ground Gulls

Brighton have punched above their weight for years but with Graham Potter leaving for Chelsea, they'd be forgiven for wobbling. Instead, they keep flying high and our EPL picks expect that to continue vs. Brentford.

Brentford welcome Brighton to Gtech Community Stadium, with both teams looking for their first victories since the start of September.

Brentford are winless in three matches, having picked up just one point from nine. Brighton have taken only one point from a possible six, although drawing Liverpool at Anfield and losing 1-0 to Tottenham won’t leave Roberto De Zerbi disconsolate.

Here are our free picks and predictions for Brentford vs. Brighton on October 14.

Brentford vs Brighton best odds

Brentford vs Brighton picks and predictions

Like their inaugural Premier League season, Thomas Frank’s side enjoyed an impressive run to start the current campaign, losing one of six matches. The wheels haven’t completely flung off, but they have wobbled since.

Their previous three matches raised several justifiable questions about whether Brentford have the overall depth and quality to retain their spot in the Premier League for a second year. Outscored 8-1 during the dismal stretch, Brentford showed vulnerability at the back and an uncharacteristic limpness in attack.

The last two matches were played in the unfriendly environments of Newcastle and Bournemouth. Brentford haven’t played at home since losing 3-0 to the top flight’s in-form team, Arsenal, on Sept. 18.

The Bees, whose only setback thus far at home came against Arsenal, offer an altogether different proposition when they play in front of their ravenous fanbase at Gtech Community Stadium, smashing Manchester United 4-0 and Leeds 5-2 in their two home victories.

Unfortunately for Frank, his Bees’ malaise dates back further than the current three-game winless streak. Brentford have won just one of their previous seven encounters, the only victory coming against Leeds at home. The other six resulted in three losses and three draws.

In the opposing camp, Brighton should still be high in confidence despite their miniature two-game slide. Like Brentford, the Seagulls lost one of their first six, keeping three clean sheets and outscoring opponents 11-5.

Brighton have stuttered recently, winning one of the last four. However, taking a single point from Tottenham and Liverpool is markedly superior to what Brentford accomplished by obtaining the same return from Newcastle and Bournemouth.

The one beaming consistent positive out of Brighton’s camp is their outstanding collective defense. The Seagulls, along with Manchester City, Newcastle, and Everton, have conceded nine goals, boasting the league’s most stingy defense.

While the feverish sellout crowd will invariably galvanize the Bees, expect the away side to return to winning ways and provide De Zerbi with his first triumph as Brighton bench boss.

Brentford vs Brighton side analysis

Before their recent slide, Brentford enjoyed all sorts of offensive joy. They exploded for 15 goals in the first six league encounters. Only Manchester City, who had 20, scored more goals during that timeframe.

Conversely, the Bees have conceded 17 goals, the joint-fifth most in the top flight.

Ivan Toney scored from the spot against Newcastle and has the only Brentford goal in the three matches since.

The Bees lost both encounters against Brighton since gaining promotion into the Premier League and have one win in their last six against the Seagulls.

Brighton are unbeaten in four away tests at Brentford and have kept clean sheets in five of the previous seven against the Bees, adding to Frank’s pre-match concerns.

Toney has six of Brentford’s 16 goals, 38 percent of the team’s overall output. That disproportionate reliance on their talisman should also discomfort Frank, who needs to find a way to spread the goalscoring wealth across his side more evenly.

Brentford vs Brighton Over/Under analysis

While there shouldn’t be bundles of goals, the match certainly leans toward the Over. Three of the last four have resulted in the Over for both Brighton and Brentford.

The same 75 percent Over ratio extends to Brighton’s away contests. Their only Under occurred in a 2-0 victory over West Ham at the London Stadium.

Six of Brentford’s nine contests resulted in the Over, including three of four at home. Their only Under at home occurred in a 1-1 draw against Everton.

Look for both teams to score and Brighton to snatch victory. If you’re feeling bold, lock in a 2-1 triumph for the away side.
