Liverpool vs Arsenal Predictions & Picks for Wednesday's Club Friendly Match

Neither Liverpool nor Arsenal will dress their full squads for this friendly in Philly, and that has our soccer picks leaning to the Over 2.5. This is a time for tinkering as the results don't matter in the grand scheme of things.

We have an all-Premier League preseason game with Liverpool vs. Arsenal at the Linc on Wednesday evening.

It’s a fascinating period for both of these famous English clubs with Liverpool beginning their post-Jurgen Klopp era and Arsenal readying themselves for another assault at the Premier League title. Our Liverpool vs. Arsenal predictions expect this warm-up clash to be loose and full of scoring.

My analysis

It can be tough to get excited for a preseason game but Wednesday’s game between Liverpool and Arsenal is an exception. Yes, several star players are missing but with Arsenal desperate to finally win another Premier League title and Liverpool in the process of discovering themselves again post-Klopp, there’s plenty to be interested in.

Liverpool have come into this preseason with a new manager for the first time since 2015 and it’s been interesting to see how new man Arne Slot wants his team to play. They’re yet to sign a player this window with the new manager wanting to give his squad a chance to showcase their talents first. They’re missing a number of their best players with many who reached the knockout stages at the Euros or Copa America missing. The defense could especially be an issue with Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Trent Alexander-Arnold all absent, forcing the manager to start a weakened back four.

Arsenal are without England trio Declan Rice, Aaron Ramsdale, Bukayo Saka, David Raya, and William Saliba. They are onto their third-string goalkeeper, and although the defense is stronger with Ben White and Jurrien Timber missing the Euros, Gabriel Magalhaes has returned already due to Brazil’s relatively early exit.

The level of players at Mikel Arteta’s disposal is stronger with Martin Odegaard, Jorginho, Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Martinelli all likely to play a part, if not start the game. Brazilian duo Jesus and Martinelli both scored against Man United and Gabriel Jesus, in particular, has form for being exceptional during preseason, much like we saw last summer. It’s also worth keeping an eye on Ethan Nwaneri, with the highly touted youngster starting both games so far and looking very impressive.

All in all, we have to expect goals. Liverpool are without their best defense, while Arsenal have a third-string keeper starting. Weakened defenses are likely to be there for the taking with the likes of Jesus, Martinelli, Mohamed Salah, and Diogo Jota all on the pitch. We also have to remember that this is a warm-up game and the players won’t be truly playing at 100%, while the respective managers will be looking to try things out with their teams, likely resulting in an increased chance of goals.

Liverpool vs Arsenal same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 2.5

Both teams to score

Arsenal moneyline

In addition to our best bet for the game we’re also going to back both teams to score. These teams have elite players in attacking positions, and Liverpool have scored in their one game in front of a crowd this summer, while Arsenal have scored in each of their two games.

The Gunners have been the better of the two teams this summer, especially if you include Liverpool losing 1-0 to Preston North End in a behind-closed-doors friendly. They come into this having beaten Manchester United and will fancy their chances against a Liverpool team missing key defensive pieces, something that should just give Arsenal the edge.
