Liverpool vs Leicester City picks and predictions
Friday gives us two games, the best of which is Liverpool vs Leicester, a game with two clubs both in serious need of three points. The home team Liverpool are in sixth, but just five points behind the Spurs in fourth and with a game in hand.
Despite their slow start to the season, there’s real optimism that they can secure a Top 4 finish and Champions League qualification for next year. Then there’s Leicester. Before the break they managed to climb the table a little, but despite being in 13th, they are still just four points ahead of the teams in 18th and 19th. They really can’t give up now.
Darwin Nunez has had one of the most fascinating starts to a career in Premier League history. He arrived from Benfica for a huge fee and instantly drew comparison to Man City’s Erling Haaland, who has been sensational this year. Nunez saw red in his first match, and since then the rollercoaster hasn’t stopped.
One word you can’t escape when watching Nunez is ‘chaos’, as he flips between looking genuinely world class one minute, and then he looks like he’s playing in the park. His performances, and the price tag, have led him to get mocked on social media by rival fans, but he’s got the raw talent to excel in the Premier League.
Players don’t often arrive, like Haaland has, and instantly fit in. it. Despite the criticism, Nunez has five goals and two assists in 11 games, three of which were from the bench. He’s also added another three in the Champions League.
Nunez didn’t find the net against Aston Villa midweek, but on another day he could have scored plenty, and most importantly he is working hard and getting into those positions. The goals will come. Against a poor Leicester defense, I’m backing him to get his first goal since the World Cup on Friday.
My best bet: Darwin Nunez to score (+110 at bet365)

Liverpool vs Leicester City side analysis
Liverpool haven’t been overly consistent this season, playing poorly one week and then pulling a full 180. That said, they come into this game with most of their key players in good health and crucially, the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold looked rejuvenated in their last game. The feel-good atmosphere has arrived around the club once again and the signing of Cody Gakpo will only strengthen that.
Leicester by contrast are in real, real trouble. They’re close to the relegation zone and they need to look over their shoulders. In their 3-0 loss to Newcastle, they look totally lost, both defensively and when going forward too. They’re missing their star man James Maddison but that isn’t a good enough excuse.
It’s hard to look beyond Liverpool winning this but at -350 it’s not worth betting on it.
Liverpool vs Leicester City Over/Under analysis
The bookies are expecting Over 2.5 goals, and given how bad Leicester looked on Monday and how dangerous the Liverpool attack looked, it makes perfect sense. The best odds around on Over 2.5 are -220, which is very short but it feels very likely.
We’ve seen Over 2.5 goals in 66.7% of Liverpool’s games this season, including their past four in the Premier League. We’ve seen Over 2.5 goals in 62.5% of Leicester’s games this season but that increases to 75% when they’re on the road — with only two matches going Under. For those reasons you have to back the Over here.
