When you have as much firepower as Real Madrid, two goals in a game become very obtainable.

It was a shock neither team finished in the top eight of the Champions League group stages, but that gives us a huge knockout game. The first leg of Manchester City's and Real Madrid’s match will take place on Tuesday at the Etihad Stadium.

Real Madrid’s attack, in particular, is scary, which is why my Manchester City vs Real Madrid predictions have the away team scoring Over 1.5 goals.

Man City vs Real Madrid picks and predictions

My best bet:
Real Madrid Over 1.5 goals (-104 at TonyBet)

My analysis
Man City are having a shocking season by their high standards. They’re currently fifth in the league domestically and 15 points behind the current leaders Liverpool. Part of the issue has been their defense.

They’ve routinely been amongst the best defensively — both domestically and in Europe — but this season, they’ve given up 35 league goals in 24 games, which saw Guardiola spend a lot of money on defensive reinforcements in January.

City gave up a staggering 14 goals in the UCL, the second-highest of any team who qualified for the next stage behind Feyenoord. They kept four clean sheets to start the group stage and then failed to keep one in the next five games, giving up four to Sporting Lisbon, three to Feyenoord, and four to PSG.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid has averaged Over two goals per game domestically, with 51 in 25 La Liga games. They were just one point off qualifying in the top eight in the group stage, winning their past three games and scoring 20 goals in eight games.

With City recently displaying huge defensive weaknesses and Real possessing a front four of Mbappe, Vini Jr., Rodrygo, and Jude Bellingham, they’ll struggle with a huge amount of firepower.

Man City vs Real Madrid same-game parlay (SGP)

Real Madrid Over 1.5 goals

Real Madrid to win or draw

Both teams to score

Win or draw is always likely for a team scoring two goals — but in this case — it makes sense, given how hard to predict Man City’s attacking performances are currently. They're more than capable of scoring a couple of goals, especially at home, but it’s not that simple. Real Madrid have either drawn or won four of the past five meetings between the two teams.

While it’s been a poor season for Guardiola’s team, they have a lot of quality in their ranks and should be able to score. City have scored in 13 consecutive games in all competitions and scored 18 times in their eight Champions League group games this season.
