Wimbledon 2024 Men's Odds, Favorites, & Sleepers: Eyeing Sinner, Looking Away From Djokovic

While all eyes will be on defending champion Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, there are reasons to look away from them this year. The same can't be said for Jannik Sinner, though, with the World No. 1 highlighting our Wimbledon preview below.

Defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz is on the Wimbledon odds shortlist to defend his 2023 title when The Championships at Wimbledon begins on Monday, July 1.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, seven-time champion Novak Djokovic, and a host of others in this year’s field will look to snatch away the title from the No. 2-ranked Spaniard, and this year's edition should prove to be one the best.

Can Alcaraz walk through the door, or will one of our sleepers win what is one of the more wide-open Wimbledon’s since 2003? Read our betting preview below to find out.

Who's hot

Jannik Sinner (+170 at BetMGM)
Jannik Sinner has made great strides on grass. He added his fourth title of the season at Halle last weekend to an already impressive 2024 resume and has reached at least the semis in seven of the eight tourneys he’s entered this season.

He has all the tools in his bag to win Wimbledon. He had a couple of tight moments at Halle, but he got through because of his big serve and improving footwork that’s enabled him to slide effectively on grass. The 22-year-old Italian tops the ATP Tour in service games won (91%) and his steady progression at Wimbledon (quarters in 2022, semis in 2023) along with his 8-5 record in tiebreakers leads me to believe he’ll be playing late into the second weekend.

Tommy Paul (+4,000 at BetMGM)
Tommy Paul reached the Round of 16 last year and dropped one set on his way to winning his second title of the season at last week's Cinch Championships (Queens Club).

Paul does not have the biggest serve on Tour, but he battles hard from the baseline; he’s solid from both wings and ranks eighth in return games won (27%) with a 21st-best 41% conversion rate. Paul owns an 84.4% career hold rate on grass and his 6-3 record in breakers suggests the 27-year-old American could make some noise during this fortnight.

Who's not

Carlos Alcaraz (+175 at DraftKings)
Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz lost his only grass court match leading up to The Championships, but if we learned anything at all from Roland Garros, the World No. 2 doesn’t need much early prep to win big events.

Alcaraz has an arm injury from the spring he could still be dealing with, but he's as tough a customer as there is in this field. He can punish from both sides of the dish and frustrates his opponents with ankle-breaking, cleverly placed drop shots from anywhere on the court. Alcaraz wins more tiebreakers than he loses (8-5) and — aside from a sore arm — has all the tools in his bag to successfully defend his title.

Novak Djokovic (+400 at DraftKings)
Seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic has arrived at SW19, but meniscus surgery following his fourth-round French Open victory over Francisco Cerundolo could cause last year's finalist to miss the event.

Djokovic is without a title this season and has not reached a final since beating Sinner at last November’s ATP Tour finale. His 2024 season has been filled with disappointments; the 37-year-old has looked lethargic and mostly disinterested this year but if he's healthy and motivated, the 24-time Grand Slam champion can beat anyone in this field.

Wimbledon men's sleepers

Players to watch

Jack Draper (+2,000 at DraftKings)
Great Britain No. 1 Jack Draper is steadily rising through the rankings. The reigning Stuttgart champion took out Alcaraz at Queens Club and will have plenty of vocal support from the local fans residing on Henman Hill.

Draper is 13th in service games won (85.2%) with a Top 10 return game. His running lefty forehand is one of the best on Tour and the 22-year-old is 7-1 on the slippery stuff this season. Draper is 1-4 lifetime at the All-England Club with a big enough game to reach the second week, but will the pressure to perform well here be his undoing?

Hubert Hurkacz (+1,800 at Caesars)
Hubert Hurkacz lost the Halle final to Sinner, but last year's semifinalist leads the Tour in aces and is a dangerous player on grass courts.

He's more than a serve-bot; his groundstrokes are dependable from both sides and while he doesn't get a lot of break point chances, he does convert a 45th-best 38.9% of them. The 27-year-old Pole leads the Tour with a 25-18 tiebreak record this season, which should bode well for a deep SW19 run.

Taylor Fritz (+3,500 at Caesars)
American Taylor Fritz reached the 2023 quarters and is a dangerous grasscourt player who could have a nice run at SW19.

Fritz is seventh on Tour in service games won, which is partially why he wins 65% percent of his tiebreakers (9-5). The other reason he wins those breakers is his 19th-best return game with an 18th-best break point conversion rate (41%). Fritz is 12-9 lifetime at SW19, but he's playing with a confidence that should serve him well.

Long shots to avoid

Alexander Bublik (+10,000 at DraftKings)
Big-serving Alexander Bublik won Montpellier and reached the finals in Dubai, but suffered some sort of injury during his three-set victory over Ben Shelton in Madrid and has ridden the struggle bus ever since.

Bublik boasts a career 31-17 mark on grass but is 10-7 at the All-England Club and only 2-3 this season. He has the serve to hammer opponents, but his fatal flaw is his Tour-leading 7.3 double faults per game. His Top 50 return game and 41% break-point conversion rate have been unable to compensate for the two games he gives away per match, which is why Bublik is a bad bet to win Wimbledon.
