A featherweight crossroads clash between Bryce Mitchell and Jean Silva serves as one of our featured attractions on the UFC 314 undercard.

UFC odds favor Silva at -270, and Mitchell is a +200 underdog. Here are my best Mitchell vs. Silva predictions from the Kaseya Center in Miami.

Mitchell vs Silva prediction and best bet

Fight analysis

Things have gone so far off the rails for Mitchell since his loss to Ilia Topuria three years ago, and a large part of why he’s a significant underdog here has to do with perceptions about his mental state.

He hasn’t helped his case by claiming that demons possess Silva, but this isn’t as cut-and-dry a win for Silva as the odds suggest. While Silva is rightfully the favorite, it’s important to remember Mitchell is a tremendous athlete who would benefit just as much from a win here as Silva would.

Starting with Silva, he’s a dangerous striker riding a 12-fight win streak. His Muay Thai is sharp, and he lands 5.26 significant strikes per minute, absorbing 4.83. He defends 80% of takedowns, and when he hits the ground, he’s shown he can hold his own in those situations.

At this point, Silva might be the best pure striker in the division, and is a legitimate finisher who will do damage once he feels he has you hurt.

The key question is how Mitchell approaches this fight because he has no business trading shots with Silva. Mitchell beat technically superior strikers by taking advantage of poor wrestling defense, as he did against Dan Ige. However, we’re not far removed from his brutal loss to Josh Emmett at UFC 296.

His bounce-back win over Kron Gracie last December doesn’t tell us much, considering Gracie’s severely limited skill set. Now Mitchell finds himself in a dangerous matchup where anything less than 100% simply won’t cut it.

When Silva fought Charles Jourdain, he did get taken down three times, but he weathered the storm and made his strikes count en route to a knockout win.

Mitchell is a better wrestler than Jourdain, but with his low strike output and paltry two significant strikes per minute, he’ll be shooting without much setup, and Silva will be ready for that. There’s too much momentum behind Silva, and Mitchell has shown he can’t absorb heavy damage from fighters who combine power with takedown defense.

Whether Silva takes the fight to him or Mitchell goes for a desperate takedown, there aren’t many clear paths for an upset here. Expect Silva to pick him apart, making it hard to watch by the end.

Best bet analysis
The skill gap on the feet will be too wide for Mitchell to close, even with his advantages in height and reach.

Silva will have an open book in front of him as Mitchell has to take chances to bully him backwards, and that won’t bode well for him, particularly with Silva’s firepower. Silva winning by knockout is my best bet.
