UFC Fight Night Bryczek vs Potieria Odds, Picks, and Predictions: Quick End For One Fighter

Robert Bryczek makes his UFC debut against Ihor Potieria, who replaces the injured Albert Duraev. Potieria was forced to cut weight to make this fight and the chinny Ukrainian might be in trouble against the powerful Pole.

The Robert Bryczek vs. Ihor Potieria middleweight bout is our featured undercard attraction on tonight’s edition of UFC Fight Night as Bryczek makes his UFC debut on Saturday, February 10, at The Apex in Las Vegas.

Polish power is on display in this bout between brawlers, and there is reason to believe Bryczek’s debut could be a quick night at the office against the chinny Potieria.

UFC odds have Bryczek as the -170 favorite, and Potieria a +135 underdog.

Here are my free picks for Bryczek vs. Potieria at tonight's UFC Fight Night.

Bryczek vs Potieria  picks

Fight prediction: Bryczek ML

Robert Bryczek is a virtual unknown to MMA fans, and he was likely to have a hard night against original opponent Albert Duraev. Duraev fell out due to injury and Ihor Potieria filled the spot and will have to drop down from light heavyweight here. Bryczek has stopping power, having won his last five fights by knockout, and has 12 finishes in 17 wins. He’s been competing in the Eastern European circuit for some time, and he’s getting a soft landing for his UFC debut.

Potieria is best known for retiring Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, and the reason he got that opportunity was because he has a bad defense and a glass jaw. While Rua was too old to make something happen, Potieria has been finished three times in his last five fights. He’s the definition of a kill-or-be-killed fighter, which hasn’t worked out for him.

Bryczek might have been an interesting underdog against Duraev, and he’s a great deal at just -160. Potieria hits like a truck, but the fact that he’s coming in on short notice and having to cut weight isn’t going to increase his troubling striking resistance or grant him a massive size advantage. This is likely going to be a brawl from the beginning, and Bryczek won’t struggle to find his target as he’ll be coming right at him.

This could be Potieria’s last chance with the UFC. Maybe he’ll come out firing and catch Bryczek with a wicked shot early on, but if that doesn’t work, he’s too basic and chinny to spring the upset. I’m picking Bryczek to win.

Prediction: Robert Bryczek moneyline (-160 at Bet99)

Fight best bet: Under 1.5 rounds

Since debuting with a win against Lucas Sudolski in a 2021 edition of Dana White’s Contender Series, Potieria has earned the reputation of a fragile fighter. He’s defending only 41% of significant strike attempts, absorbing 6.56 of them per minute. Besides Sudolski and Rua, Potieria has failed to reach the third round, or win, any of his other fights.

It’s clear that Potieria isn’t equipped to handle the quality of opposition he’s seeing at light heavyweight, so it’s logical that he’ll try to cut weight and add more power at middleweight. Going down in weight doesn’t toughen up their striking resistance or cardio, and as Potieria is a freewheeling brawler who throws everything with intent, it’s easy to see Bryczek clipping him with a major shot in the opening round.

However, Bryczek is equally unproven. A run in the Czech Republic wasn’t enough to earn any mainstream appeal or buzz ahead of his UFC debut, and he was the underdog against Duraev. It wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for Bryczek to get caught up in the moment, allowing a desperate Potieria to land a punch that saves his UFC career.

This figures to be a firefight from the beginning and isn’t likely to go the distance. I’m going to go a step further and say that this fight doesn’t make it to the second round. My best bet for the fight is that someone gets stopped early.

Pick: Under 1.5 rounds (-260 at Bet99)

Bryczek vs Potieria betting preview

Bryczek debuts to minimal fanfare in the crowded middleweight division, and he hopes to impress in his first fight with the UFC. The Polish battler is a striker by nature, scoring 11 knockouts and his recent stoppage streak likely earned him his spot in the UFC. While he hasn’t scored a win over anyone of notice, he’s clearly shown that he is above the regional level of opposition and has a vulnerable opponent opposing him.

Potieria’s fortunes changed for the worse after leaving his local scene behind. The Ukrainian is exciting, but defensively flawed, and is might be facing a roster cut if he gets rolled over in defeat as is his norm. While his fights do not tend to last long, Potieria fights at a blistering pace and lands 5.59 significant strikes per minute. He does, however, have three stoppage losses.

The weight cut is going to handicap Potieria even further, but is Bryczek truly ready for the UFC? It won’t take long to find out as these two power strikers will try to impose their will on the other, with Potieria’s volume hopefully boosted with a size advantage, while Bryczek will bide his time and wait for an opening. Bryczek doesn’t have the same durability issues as Potiera, with only two losses via finish in his career, and six of his last seven wins have come by first-round knockout.
