McCann vs Belbita picks
Fight prediction: McCann ML
When looking at Molly McCann, we know exactly what to expect. She’s a solid striker who can drown her opponents in volume, doesn’t shy away from taking a shot, and has terrible takedown defense. Another thing we know about “Meatball” is that she has a 2019 win over Diana Belbita that stands as her best performance in the UFC to date.
In that fight, McCann dominated Belbita in strikes and scored five takedowns. Belbita hasn’t progressed since that loss, losing in the same manner as she did against McCann, being unable to outwork her opponents or use her ground game to neutralize them. All things equal, both fighters are performing at the same level now as they did five years ago.
McCann won’t do well against a grappler-oriented offense, and because Belbita doesn’t have the striking power or ring smarts to slow her down, McCann should run away with this one. The call here is that McCann goes 2-0 against Belbita.
Prediction: McCann moneyline (-260 at Bet99)
Fight best bet: Over 2.5 rounds
McCann might be better suited to the lower weight class, and if she can close the distance as she did in the first fight with Belbita, I don’t see why she can’t win as handily the second time around. There are a few things that do concern me in committing to McCann.
First, Meatball is now 36 years old and is coming off back-to-back losses. A loss to Erin Blanchfield isn’t a bad thing, but her rapid submission loss to Julija Stoliarenko is more troubling. Belbita isn’t faring well on her side of things, going 2-3 in her last five, but still possesses significant advantages in height and reach — as well as being better acclimated to the lower weight class.
If McCann botches the weight cut, or if her time is simply up, then Belbita will be right there with her until the end. Either way, these two are tough and can take punishment, so betting on the fight lasting Over 2.5 rounds is a solid pick.
Pick: Over 2.5 rounds (-280 at Bet99)
McCann vs Belbita betting preview
McCann is the kind of fighter whose entertainment value outweighs her talent level. The Liverpool brawler is coming off a first-round submission loss to Stoliarenko last July, her second in a row. Before her current predicament, McCann won three in a row which resulted in her scoring post-fight bonuses.
Belbita is 2-3 since her UFC debut loss to McCann. Though she also primarily operates as a striker, she can wrestle and get takedowns. The Canadian will have a three-inch advantage in height and a six-inch advantage in reach but opts to fight in close range.
McCann hopes to set the pace just like in their first fight, where she outlanded Belvita in strikes 113-98 and scored five takedowns. For Belbita to win, she must rely on her natural advantages and slow the fight down with her long jab and leg kicks.
Both fighters are coming off losses, and neither have been finished by knockout in their respective MMA careers.
