Volkov vs Tybura betting preview

Alexander Volkov is the No. 5 ranked heavyweight contender and is fresh off a unanimous decision loss to Ciryl Gane in June. The former M-1 Global and Bellator heavyweight champion is 7-3 under the UFC banner since making his promotional debut in 2016.

Nicknamed "Drago" after the Russian villain in Rocky III, Volkov has high-level kickboxing ability and lands 4.84 significant strikes per minute while absorbing just 2.88.

Marcin Tybura is No. 8 in the heavyweight rankings and is on a five-fight winning streak, most recently a knockout victory over Walt Harris in June, which earned him his second straight Performance of the Night bonus.

Tybura is a black belt in BJJ and is a well-rounded heavyweight that combines accurate striking with powerful wrestling and grappling ability. Of his 21 career victories, the 35-year-old has six career wins by submission and nine by knockout.

Volkov vs Tybura UFC prediction and betting pick

Some professional athletes are very good without being quite capable of breaking into the upper echelon and Volkov seems like that guy. He isn't fast enough to handle a high-end athlete like Gane, isn't quite good enough to deal with an elite wrestler like Curtis Blaydes, and he can be put to sleep by guys with one-punch knockout power like Derrick Lewis (even if Drago was winning for most of that fight).

However, Volkov has typically had little problem with dispatching less talented fighters and Tybura doesn't stand out in any one area.

Don't forget that before Tybura's winning streak began last year, he had a five-fight stretch where he went just 1-4, with three of those defeats coming by way of knockout. He also ate some big punches from Harris and Hardy in his last two bouts before turning the tide.

Volkov has some of the best technical striking ability in the division and by bulking up recently he has added even more power to his shots. With four of Volkov's last five wins coming by way of knockout, back that prop bet this weekend.
