Rob Font vs Deiveson Figueiredo picks
Fight prediction: Figueiredo ML
While Figueiredo had a strong run at flyweight — including being a two-time champion and a legendary four-fight series with Brandon Moreno — the writing was on the wall that he needed to move up in weight. Figueiredo went to the well too many times and was spent in the fourth and final bout against Moreno, where he took a terrible beating. This move up in weight is overdue, but then again, Font isn’t exactly at the top of his game.
Font is on the back nine of his career, but still dangerous. He has advantages in physical size, height, and reach, and his takedown defense should shine against a smaller opponent. In the striking department, Figueiredo might not carry that thudding power now that he’s fighting someone his own size, though he’s the harder-hitting striker of the two.
Font is showing signs of wear, having been knocked down at a higher frequency as of late. Not to mention, Cory Sandhagen took him down seven times in his last fight, and Figueiredo is very good at getting his opponents on the mat. Both fighters are coming off one-sided losses; another loss won’t do them any favors at this stage of their careers.
I’ll give the slight edge to Figueiredo, mainly because he’s an ex-champ not far removed from some impressive performances and will look refreshed in a new division.
Prediction: Figueiredo Moneyline (+110 at FanDuel)
Fight best bet: Over 2.5 rounds
Figueiredo’s best bet is to try and take the fight to the ground. We could see Figueiredo look revitalized, particularly because he won’t have a drastic weight cut. Font must utilize his reach and height to keep the former champion at bay.
Font is the better technical striker, but the power advantage leans to Figueiredo. Even if Figueiredo cannot land a big shot to trouble Font, he’ll be fast enough on his feet to threaten takedowns and get in a range where Font’s signature jab won’t work.
These two are both solid enough to take the best of whatever gets tossed at them, and whether this turns out to be a war or a tactical battle, I see this going Over 2.5 rounds.
Pick: Over 2.5 rounds (-125 at DraftKings)
Rob Font vs Deiveson Figueiredo betting preview
Figueiredo was a hulking beast at flyweight, though he was eventually slayed by Moreno. His debut at Bantamweight should result in him having more energy in his offense. The Brazilian is known for his blunt power and suffocating submission game.
Font is 2-3 over his last five and was mauled by Sandhagen last August. The former CES featherweight champion is a solid boxer with a snappy jab and excels at controlling the distance. Before his recent predicament, Font went on a four-fight win streak from 2019-2021.
Font has a three-inch advantage in height and reach, and has fought as high as lightweight. This means that Figueiredo won’t be able to bully the boxer with his size, which was a huge weapon in his arsenal at flyweight. That said, Font’s damage resistance is starting to depreciate, and has been stunned and dropped on multiple occasions over his last five fights.
