It’s just another manic Monday in the WNBA as the final days of summer wrap up and send the league into the home stretch of the regular season.
With the playoffs looming, we have three huge games on the WNBA odds board today, including a pair of non-conference clashes.
I push the spreads and totals to the side and focus on the WNBA player props and WNBA picks for August 26.
WNBA player prop bets for August 26
- Shakira Austin Over 7.5 rebounds (-115 at BetRivers)
- Tina Charles Over 23.5 pts+reb (-122 at FanDuel)
- Breanna Stewart Over 3.5 assists (+130 at BetMGM)
Today's best WNBA player props bets
Prop bet #1: Shakira Austin Over 7.5 rebounds
Shakira Austin is the healthiest she’s been in a long while, at least as it pertains to her troublesome hip.
The Washington Mystics third-year standout has been slowed all season by that lingering injury, but the Olympic break gave her extended time to rest and it shows.
Austin was questionable for Friday’s win over the L.A. Sparks but not due to her hip. Instead, the 6-foot-5 center was a game-time decision due to illness, but she toughed it out for 21 minutes of action, scoring 14 points while grabbing 11 rebounds.
She’s been big on the boards in the first four games back, recording efforts of 10, five, nine, and 11. Austin’s player projections call for a ceiling of 9.5 against Seattle tonight, which is well above her rebounding total of 7.5 Over/Under.
The Storm play one of the quicker paces in the WNBA and fire up 71.1 field goal attempts per game — second most in the league. That means plenty of rebounds. Seattle gives up the third-most rebounds per game (35.9), including 8.2 of those to rival centers.
Austin’s Over 7.5 rebound prop is priced as high as -136 at some sportsbooks but you can shop around and get Over 7.5 at -115.
Prop bet #2: Tina Charles Over 23.5 Points + Rebounds
League legend Tina Charles has made serious noise since the WNBA returned to play this month.
The Atlanta Dream veteran forward not only became the all-time second-leading scorer in WNBA history but is averaging 16 points and 13 rebounds over the last four outings. That’s helped boost Atlanta to 3-1 in that span and has the Dream on the cusp of postseason qualification.
Charles takes on the Indiana frontcourt at home tonight, with her player props calling for a combined 23.5 points + rebounds against the Fever. Player projections are much higher than that, based on her recent playing time, and my number comes out to 26.5 collective points + rebounds over 32 minutes.
The Fever allow foes to get a lot of extra looks, either on second-chance buckets or points off turnovers — two areas in which Charles excels. In their last matchup on June 21, the 6-foot-4 Charles dropped 24 points and seven rebounds on Indiana in 32 minutes of floor time.
Prop bet #3: Breanna Stewart Over 3.5 Assists
Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty attempt to lock back in after a dud of an offensive effort against Connecticut this weekend, snapping an eight-game winning streak.
New York scored a season-low 64 points on 42% shooting, amassing only 20 assists on 30 made field goals. Even with that poor showing, Stewart still walked away with four assists, which came on the heels of six dimes in the win against Dallas last Thursday.
On the season, Stewie is averaging 3.9 assists and her prop odds for tonight have an Over/Under of 3.5 helpers. However, the Over 3.5 assists is promising as high as +130 payouts at some books while other operators are as low as even money.
WNBA projections for Monday night call for just Over three assists from the reigning MVP but New York is one of the best offenses in the league at creating buckets from passing and faces a Mercury defense among the softest in the WNBA.
Phoenix is giving up the third-most assists per game and the last time these non-conference rivals played each other, the Liberty recorded 27 assists on 32 makes with Stewart contributing five.
