It’s a busy day of basketball betting with 10 WNBA teams in action Wednesday, starting at 7 p.m. ET and rolling into three late 10 p.m. tipoffs. Better put the coffee on.
That packed slate presents a surplus of betting value, especially beyond the spreads and totals. I break down my WNBA picks and dive into the WNBA odds below.
WNBA player prop bets for August 28
- Bonner Over 15.5 points (-106 at BetRivers)
- Cardoso Over 8.5 rebounds (-108 at FanDuel)
- Laney-Hamilton Over 10.5 points (-115 at BetRivers)
Today's best WNBA player props bets
Prop bet #1: Dewanna Bonner Over 15.5 points
Dewanna Bonner and the Connecticut Sun are surging since returning from the Olympic break, winning four of their first five games in the second half of the schedule.
However, her season averages have dropped as head coach Stephanie White sorts out the rotation with new faces on the floor. Bonner's putting up an average of 14 points over those five games — two points less than her season output of 16.2 ppg.
That has her player props sinking, with Wednesday’s scoring total at 15.5 Over/Under. Bonner faces the Indiana Fever, who she’s roughed up already this season.
In three meetings with Indiana, the 6-foot-4 forward has posted 17, 22, and 22 points while shooting a collective 49% from the floor in those matchups. The Fever remain one of the softest defenses in the WNBA, sitting second worst in advanced defensive rating, with foes averaging 86.7 points on 44.2% success from the field.
Player projections for Bonner all sit north of 16 points, with a ceiling of 17 from some models. My forecast comes out to 16.75 points which should have the Over 15.5 priced at -120. You can shop and find that same offering as low as -106.
Prop bet #2: Kamilla Cardoso Over 8.5 rebounds
Rookie center Kamilla Cardoso is fresh off a career-high 12 rebounds in the Chicago Sky’s most recent outing and will be counted on to control the boards against the Washington Mystics tonight.
The 6-foot-7 Cardosa goes after a shorthanded Washington frontcourt which is missing starting center Shakira Austin, who suffered an ankle injury earlier this week. The Mystics run small in the first place and will struggle to match Cardoso’s size. Overall, Washington sits near the back of the league in opponents’ defensive rebound rate.
Her rebounding total is set at 8.5, which sits right on her rebounding average since playing major minutes after missing the start of the season due to injury and working her way back into form. She did face Washington early in the season during that slow transition back, pulling down four rebounds in 24 minutes and five boards in 15 minutes back in June. She’s forecasted for 30+ minutes tonight.
Projections for Wednesday’s WNBA games call for more than nine boards from the former South Carolina standout, with a ceiling of over 10 rebounds. My number comes out just shy of 9.5 rebounds from the rookie, which should have the Over 8.5 carrying -137 vig — even before adjusting for Austin’s absence inside.
Prop bet #3: Betnijah Laney-Hamilton Over 10.5 points
The New York Liberty welcomed back a huge part of their push for a WNBA title on Monday, with standout Betnijah Laney-Hamilton returning from a knee injury that sidelined her since early July.
The versatile wing came off the bench for 27 minutes, shooting 3-for-8 from the floor and finishing with nine points in the win over the Mercury. Laney-Hamilton was on the floor when it mattered most, playing big minutes and contributing on offense in the fourth quarter.
That’s a good sign that she’ll return to the starting five tonight — or at least see her usual workload of 33 minutes per game. On the year, BLH is scoring 12.5 points an outing which sits short of her player prop total for points against the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday.
Oddsmakers have her scoring total at 10.5 points. Player projections are varied based on her recent injury issues, with some still calling for 11.5 points over 26 minutes. If she does see an uptick in activity against the Sparks, Laney-Hamilton is forecasted for 12.5 points over 30 minutes of floor time.
The schedule helps Laney-Hamilton find her touch as well, with L.A. offering little pushback on defense. The shorthanded Sparks are missing multiple starters and have hemorrhaged points since coming back from the Olympic break, allowing 90.3 points per game in those six outings, including 103 points at home to the Liberty on August 13.
