Yup, I read what Neil said and agree with much of it. He and I have different reads on Northwestern's mentality going into this game. I just don't see them being up after this year was the year to finally break the tournament curse. Add in the fact that they made a deep NIT run last year with basically the same roster (Juice Thompson notwithstanding), I wouldn't expect them to be particularly excited about playing in it again this year. Akron experienced its own share of heartbreak with the Ohio loss, but I'd expect them to still be interested in a chance to make an NIT run and notching a win in a Big Ten gym. The lack of prep time against Carmody's 1-3-1 is definitely problematic, but Akron also has what Northwestern struggles against: a dominant shotblocker. Their pressure on the wings is very, very good and teams get a meager number of open looks. Of course, if the effort isn't there, those shots will be more open.

As far as UMASS, not sure on the line movement. If Mississippi State happens to somehow come out and play to their ability, then yeah, UMASS is in some trouble. I just don't think the Minutemen style is conducive to Moultrie and Sidney having good games. Yes, Dee Bost is a terrific point guard, but will he be enough? One other possible concern is the officiating, as I'd expect UMASS gets a few bad whistles from the good 'ole southern refs who don't exactly like New Englanders.

I played over in Iowa and Dayton looks like a track meet to me. Just read your N.W. take. Looks like that could be an interesting under play then. I am going to give N.W. a play even after your analysis. I do believe there fans will keep there interest in the game. What you wrote definately makes sense and if they were not at home I would play akron. I played UMass based on your analysis and you are so familar with that conference. I am interested in that Lasalle Minny game and what you think as I need your help there if you have some time. Thanks again and BOL tonite

Again, I am a little concerned about the Jim Christian to URI rumors, but not enough to stay away from TCU. The 11-day layoff for Milwaukee is a question mark. I tend to think teams with that much time off come out flat. Could go the other way, though. They'll chase TCU off the 3-point line, but I ultimately think this game means much more to the TCU seniors who have never played in a postseason game in their careers.

Hey bud. Calling Iowa/Dayton a track meet is an understatement! Looking great early. As far as La Salle-Minnesota, that's a huge clash of styles. I don't think La Salle can compete with Minnesota inside, but my concern in backing the Gophers is how much they will care about this game. Tubby is a good motivator, so if I can convince myself that they are interested in picking up a few wins, they might be a play.

Ty interesting remember and this goes for your team also both are young and this would be a great start for young teams to get wins in post season. If that is the case with Lasalle about the inside play it can only help Minny from outside as well. Looks like Lasalle shoots the 3 ball great at least Minny has had alot of practice defending and have definately improved from the beginning of the year.

Yep, I'm really happy we have the opportunity to play in the NIT. Northern Iowa will be a big challenge and obviously Drexel will be angry after the ass-whooping they took at our place in early December. And being excluded from the NCAA's, of course. I'm probably going to ultimately leave Minny/La Salle alone because it'll be a huge challenge for Minnesota to adjust to La Salle's rundown little high school gym. They have some matchup advantages, but La Salle is very good in their own building and will be salivating at the idea of hosting a Big 10 school for the first time in forever.

For tomorrow, likely on Bucknell (want +9), Bowling Green, and American (want +3). Threw out Penn as I don't know their mindset after coming so close to the Ivy League title.
