Yep........ also as far as the onlookers. They will actually respect you more for showing compassion. Leave the macho crap for the ball court.

Very tough decision...she is obviously a very sick person. Sometimes woman get out of control fast playing slot machines and will do just about anything to get back to them, even hurting people they care about. I wouldn't press charges if she agreed to enter a gambling rehab and to work the GA program as best she can. You can't take her back until she is atleast a year clean and has learned a real lesson. She might not learn a thing if you just give her the job back and put her on a payment plan. Sometimes people have to hit rockbottom before they're willing to admit they have a problem and seek help.

Since she has such a proven track record for sales and customer relations, use her skills to your advantage. Get her involved with some of your lower performing representatives a little bit- maybe she could benefit your company even more than she has in the past. She will make up for her mistake immediately and you can turn this into more of a positive situation. Employees that are around for an extended period of time don't concider it to be just a job-they feel like they are part of the "family". I worked for the same company for almost 20 years and was terminated unjustly. It absolutely has turned my life upside down-this was about 3 years ago. This job was her life and certainly she is devastated. In a large corporation, you would have no choice but to terminate, but being that it is a privately owned business, you are the one that makes the decision. I honestly feel that if you were to give her a chance to make this up to you, it will pay for itself 100 times over.

I disagree with the people saying to give her another chance. There's a saying for a reason.. Fool me once, same on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Just like a druggie friend that steals from you, they did it once, can't ever trust them again.
Her gambling problem is not your problem, it is her's and her family's. Based on your statements about her being good, I would not press charges. I'm sure you can find a decent replacement.
Goodluck!

I hate this situation for you bro.
My heart is too big to press charges or even fire in this situation.
That's why I have a manager who takes care of those things for me.
You can't have her back in your office man. It's that simple.

Several have asekd how I caught her. She was putting money back on her credit card account by reversing charges. The credit card company sent me a fraud alert. Best manager I ever had. Not real great at book work or details, but a fantastic schmoozer and contact builder. Warm, outgoing. Never would have suspected. Did a back ground check before hiring. Nothing criminal or anything else that would have given me second thoughts before hiring. After the first interview, I knew this was the person for the position.

Have a heart to heart conversation..
set her up on a payment plan with interest .. not loan shark intrerest but reasonable 10-15% ..
Hire her back .. their are not MANY schmoozer types who can produce for 10 years .
I know this because I'm a schmoozer and deal -making is not a learned skill from school..
you either have it or you don't ...
you can hire a tecgnical person to do that work.. they are easy to find .. schmoozers are not

callmetim. Never, ever "boned" her. I would be just as guilty of a henious sin as she is. I don't behave that way. I would never betray my family with an affair. Never. She is not that pretty anyway, lol.
I do get what you are saying cmt. I really do. And, 99.9% of the time I would whole-heartedly agree with you. I do believe there are exceptions (very rare) in most cases--maybe not armed robbery or murder, but I do believe good people can make mistakes. Thanks for contributing. I am leaning on letting her go though, with no criminal charges. Just haven't made up my mind for certain. Just FYI.
