Bad Customer Service In Vegas, Post It Here

I have some examples:

NEW YORK NEW YORK-- I was having a bad luck day.  I was playing the slots at NYNY and ordered a beer from the cocktail waitress (as long as you are gambling, the drinks are free in Vegas.  You don't have to tip the waitress, but most players do, me included).  She brought me my beer, I reached into my pocket and only had 45 cents, so I gave it to her.  She said, "Wow, a 20-cent tip!"  She was making fun of the tip I gave to her!" I immediately cashed out and ran her down.  In front of other customers, I reamed her for making fun of my tip, which was 45 cents, not the 20 cents she claimed.  She was embarrassed and she appologized for the indescression which was the right thing for her to do. The appology calmed me down and I went on my way, knowing that she had learned her lesson.  If you make a living off tips in Vegas, keep in mind some gamblers are down on their luck and may tip you little or nothing at all.  That doesn't mean they are tightwads.  But there are some people who don't tip at all.  That's just the nature of the game.

Example 2:  I was at the Aria Casino and went up to a bartender and asked him to switch the TV to a football game I had bet on.  Now keep in mind, they had 3 TV screens showing ESPN and other sports shows that nobody was watching.  I had even went into the sportsbook and asked the manager what sattellite channel the game was on so I could provide that info to to the bartender.  After doing so, the bartender told me to go watch the game in the sportsbook.  I was truly flabbergasted!  I could have taken the matter to a higher level, but by this time I was so displeased by the customer service in virturally all MGM resorts.  I no longer do business there, as their training program is shoddy.  Furthermore, when you go to the cashier in MGM resorts, they have no line markers, so it's every customer for themselves.  I've had many customers cut in front of me, usually I say something, but I get tired of having to do so.

Good Customer Service Story:  I was playing slots at the Wynn, which is probably the highest-class place in town.  I ordered a beer.  When the waitress brought it to me I realized I didn't have any money in my pocked, all my money (and it wasn't much) was in the slot machine.  I appoligized to the waitress for not being able to tip her.  She said with a smile on her face, "Don't worry about that.  Now get lucky and get some of your money back!"  And she said it so sincerely!  See, she was trained to appreciate tips but realize that people are gamling and might not be able to tip at all.  And I was playing a penny slot in a high-class joint, it didn't matter, she still treated me like I was a high roller.  I really like the treatment you get at the Wynn.  I also received good treatment from other employees there.

Any other stories?  Good or bad?

If you re-read my story, she made fun of my tip first before I bitched at her.  If she just said thank you (like she should have) or said nothing at all, then there would be no story.  You call me a "Dumbass".  Who cares about that?

If you notice in my Wynn story, i didn't tip ANYTHING, which can happen when you insert all the cash you have into the slot machine.  I was treated with respect. 

Tipping is a privilege.  And when people are gambling, sometimes the service people don't get tipped.  But if the service is excellent, I'll chase down the waitress later and tip her double because I appreciate the way she treated me.

What you are saying:  "If the tip is lousy, it's OK to make fun of it"  I totally disagree with you.  It makes the employee look bad and the establishment look bad.  Keep in mind, I've seen waitress' bring out a lot of expensive drinks to well-dressed people and get stiffed all the time.  If they handle the situation properly, just say thank you and move on, and I'm having a good day, I'll tip her double when she gets to me to make up for the non-tippers and the way she acted.

Honestly, You would have been better off telling the waitress something like, "Hon, Ill take care of you next time around"
When you tip change like 45 cents its more like you making fun of her, If you really wanted to make her feel like crap, You should have tipped her another 2 or 3 bucks and gently explained that, that was all you had at the time.

Also, I guess the only negative customer service story I have is at the hash house, I was told and there website states that they serve breakfast starting at 2 am

We get there and I have my heart set on the SOS Breakfast You know sausage biscuits and gravy.

The waiter says, We dont serve that until 7 am
I show him that it doesnt say that on there website
He looks at me and says
7 am
I said, you cant ask the cook to see if he would make it now if I paid a little extra,
he looked at me said no, and this was the menu they had now.

As far as good customer service
Iv gotten it nearly anywhere and everywhere Part of the reason is I understand my surroundings, I know where Im at, Its kickback city.
I tip like a madman
Even downtown at the fremont experience, You have people dressed as characters I tip them 2 dollars for taking pics with the wife and kid.
at check in (the 20 dollar trick still works) Cocktail waitresses, valet drivers, restaurant staff, baggage guys, I even tipped the dude who came up to reset my safe.

Vegas is an experience that you alone can control, You can make it a great trip if your being generous or you can make it a nightmare if you are being a cheap bastard.

This last trip
I came home up 5300.00
the hotel was 850.00
I gave my wife 1400.00 (Originally 500 but as I won I gave her more and more for shopping the outlets)
Eating out every night at some of the best spots 2300 with tip
tips for valet and cocktail waitresses in 5 days Well over 300.00

Now, Had I cheaped it I would have made well over 8k
But I had a great time, My wife and kid had a great time, we were treated like royalty, Especially the hotel cleaning staff, I think we were the only room to tip them 5 bucks per day.

Vegas is what you choose to make it, If you have a miserable time, More often than not, It was most likely brought on by yourself.

You may think the "well dressed" people are stiffing them, but at times, some people, including myself depending on if I have family/friends in town, will tip one slump sum (every hr, etc) of say $50 or $100, to make sure the waitress continues to provide attention to my friends/family. In most cases, I know the waitress, or I find out what time they get off work in advance.

I won't criticize your $.45 cent tip but next time just not tip at all. You already made it clear that you're cheap by running to a penny slot for a free beer, which is fine, but stop acting as if you're entitled, and can create the waitresses like shit.

I live in Vegas now, true, I tip less than when I was a visitor.  But waitresses have thanked me when they get anything at all.  One explained to me that anything is appreciated because since the recession started, tipping is way down. I tipped her 45 cents, that's all I had in my pocket.  I wasn't going to go to the ATM machine, then try to break a 20 dollar bill, just for the tip.  What if she  was getting off at the moment, I thought 45 cents was better than nothing.

It's interesting that none of you thought her behavior was rude.  To make fun of ANY tip is unprofessional.  But I was fair to her stating that she appologized admitting that she shouldn't do that, thus ending the situation.  If you people think I'm cheap, so what,  I doubt I make as much as you do, so I'm bound to tip less as I have less income to tip.  I'm not ashamed about that and I don't brag either.

First off, You tipped her 45 cents, No matter how you want to spin this, You were the one making fun of her PERIOD

Second off, You cashed out, You cashed out unfortunately not to make the wrong you committed right, but you cashed out to go ridicule her in public infront of other customers as you wailed like a little bitch knowing she is the one who can get in trouble and not you, You used the fact that she is a casino employee at her place of work to rip into her, Had you been at a bar and she seen you do that to the cocktail girl, she would ripped into you for being a dirty filthy cheap ass no good bastard but it was at her place of employment and you knew that.

thirdly, She didnt apologize because she was embarrassed you imbecile, she apologized because you were making a scene in public and cocktail waitresses are a dime a dozen, she did everything but suck your rotting balls to appease you and stop you from going further.

and last but not least, we are all so happy that you were satisfied with her apology and your fragile ego was stroked that led you to go off on your merry old way.

I disagree  but I will not call you names.  You are entitled to your opinion, sir.

Waitresses, waiters, valets, etc work and make their living off of tips. Actually, the hardest job to get/most wanted job in Vegas in a busy hotel (bellagio, caesars, wynn) is the person who opens and closes the taxi door for you.    Why?  because of the tips.  how many doors of taxis/limos do these ppl open and close during their shift?  if every 3rd person tipped just a dollar during their 8 hr shift, they are making good money as long as there is always a taxi line.  Yes, the drink is free since you are gambling, you are correct.  But the person who went and got your drink is not trying to work for free.  If you didn't have a couple bucks on you, you shouldn't have ordered a drink period.  You should have known you had no money left on you when you said you put the last of your money in the casinos bread n butter.  You say you don't make much money, so put yourself in their shoes.  Would you work for nothing?  

Its best not to tip at all if you only have change.  Anything less than a dollar is considered an insult here in America whether you meant it or not. 

I disagree.  Those 50-cent and 75-tips add up.  10 50-cent tips as opposed to nothing at all add up to $5.  I am friends with a few waitresses and they explained that the tips of less than a dollar are more and more frequent and they appreciate every one of them.  On a typical round, a waitress may serve 8 drinks.  If trree customers tipped 50 cents as opposed to nothing that's a dollar, fifty she wouldn't have had,  She also told me that locals have really been hit hard, therefore are tipping even less that they used to.

So she should have to deliver ten fucking drinks to make 5 bucks???  Dude I tip $5 the first drink just to make sure she comes back.  Dude you might not be a complete dick by not talking trash back to us.  But common dude I hope this is a joke or something you have got to be the cheapest dude in the world and dont deserve the luxories of Vegas.

in example #2, were you a customer at the bar and actually ordering drinks or were you just there taking up a seat that a paying customer could sit at?  i would tell you to keep moving also if you only wanted tap water and to sit at the bar to watch a game while costing the bartender a living.

I have more to verify my story.  I remember it was the night UNLV played it's first game of the season against Minnesota.  I believe the game kicked off around 8pm and I arrived the bar a few minutes after kickoff.  The bar was located to the right of the sportsbook and cashier, I can't remember it's name.  The bartender was black, and not too friendly.

I'd suggest you contact the Aria Casino, ask for a copy of the survailence (if I misspelled that word, please let me know) tapes.  Then and only then can my story be verified.  Otherwise, it's my word against his!

There is cheap and there is classless, You fall under the classless category.

You thinking a 50 cent tip is acceptable is a joke in itself.
I tip 2 dollars for every drink and Its usually coke with grenadine syrup, a cherry coke.

I was at the Bellagio for the Monday night game between packers and seahawks, I had the under and hit all my baseball games so I was happy, I was tipping the girl 2 dollars each time, she forgot the cherry in the cherry coke, I told her dont worry about it and still tipped her the 2 dollars, I tipped her over 30 bucks in that 5 hour period, she asked me if I won, I said Yes, she said Im so happy you won, I wish all the customers were like you.
That actually made me feel good as I was appreciated, when you become recognized and you will become recognized , Only it will be as a cheap ass Flea, it will be harder and harder for them to bring you your beloved drink on a timely basis, I mean good luck not getting passed over sometimes.

Also the fact you refuse to even try and defend your actions on the post I wrote above doesnt make you look like the bigger man, On the contrary, It makes you look like everything I said you to be.

I am not the type of person who brags about how much I tip, I'll leave that to you guys.  But it is interesting that you said you had a good betting day, so you tipped more.  I stated I was having a bad betting so I tipped less.  Yet it's OK for you to do that, but not me?

ad160, my income is not as good as the other guys that brag about their big tips.  I'm sorry you feel that way, but every tip should appreciated.  If I had a big day, the tips get bigger.

Pro- this service/waitress/tipping thing is not something you seem to understand so good but you sure understand how to work the system. You post you play pennies to ply drinks and you hustle buffet lines to eat cheap. Do you sleep under an overpass or why don't you get in line at ST. Vincents were you don't tip at all?

I was too embarrassed to say this, but I will.  I'm unemployed and am trying to make a living in Vegas with my savings.  When I first moved here, I was playing slots, table games and sportsbetting.  The slots and table games sure made me a loser, fast.  I have eliminated them and just stick to sports betting, where I've done good, made enough to keep a roof over my heaed.

The attitudes you bring forth are disappointing.  My tipping has gone down because I'm more concerned about my survival.  But I still appreciate being treated respectfully by the service people, and that waitress at the Wynn really made me feel good.

These are not good times we live in.  Everybody has felt some pain.  I am not ashamed of how I operate.  I have to survive.  And I'd bet if any of you moved here and tried to gamble for a living, you'd also cut back on your expenses. 

Living here also lets you see how the hotel/casinos really try to gouge the visitors.  My goal is to let visitors know how to stretch their budgets out so they can stay longer and enjoy more.
