Craziest/best/worst gambling stories...

I've got alot... Mainly because the drunker I get, money management goes out the door... lol

Starting with how I lost my whole roll within just 4 hours of getting off the plane... 22 years old and only my 2nd time to Vegas... My cousin and I Flew into Vegas for 7 days. As soon as we landed, he jumped on another plane to Cali to meet up with a girl, and then drive down the next day with his brother. So basically I was alone for the night in Vegas. My plan was to play a little craps, get drunk and pass out early to wake up and meet up with my cousins.

My bankroll for the trip was $4000, so I cashed in $1000 at the craps table at Mainstreet. Within 1 hour and about 6 beers deep, I had lost almost all my chips. I ended up cashing in another $1000 thinking I could get it all back... Nope, wrong. Within half an hour, I lost all of my second buy in. Frustrated and wanting to get revenge, I cashed in the rest of my money... $2000. My chips went up and down, up and down. But about an hour and a half later, I lost everything. Ended up going all in on a roller who ends up crapping out after 3 or 4 rolls...

Now drunk off my ass and broke as hell, I called my cousin and told him I lost everything. He actually thought I was BSing and won, but could tell in my voice that I lost. Called my girl back home and told her to wire me the rest of my savings, $5000. Western Union took a huge chunk of my $5000 to do a money transfer. At the end of my trip I ended up winning some back and went home down $3000 for the entire trip. 

Lessons learned... Do not chase your losses, instead walk away when the table is COLD... Do not use Western Union if you need money, instead try to get a marker from the casino as long as you know you can pay them back... Drinking and gambling do not mix, especially if you are DRUNK... <<< This one I have a hard time following because the beer just taste so damn good... lol

Las time I was in Vegas (downtown), I was approached many times to buy dope.  In fact the first time my buddy paid $20 and got a piece of paper with nothing in it.  We then decided we would not attempt to purchase anything.   But that didnt mean the hustlers would give up.  We where in the Golden Nugget at a bar and a spanish type dude approached us and tried to get us to 1. give him money for a ride cause he was too drunk to drive is fancy car home.  2.  come with him and he would give us anything we wanted. 3.  and he got his hand on a couple of our beers but whatever.  Dude was very intiminating and made me kinda nervous.  I live 1 mile from detroit so its not like I am not used to this type of dude.  But I knew this guy was not a guy to fuck around with.  Well to make long story short the dude that ripped us off approached us because the dumbass gave us his court papers and we laughed when we saw it.  He wasnt getting that shit back.  He was a big black dude but black dudes dont really scare me for some reason.  Most of them are harmless just talk loud.  But he got in the way of the puerta rican dude and that dude wasnt having it.  These two got into a little security came over and everything racial slurs going back and fourth then these two took it outside.  Puerta rican dude came back holding his hand like he knocked him out.  But black dude came right back so who knows.  There was also a 3rd dude who said he just got out of jail.  He never asked for anything but asked to use a phone then shortly after dude who wanted court papers shows up.  So til this day we are  not sure if these 3 where workng together or if they really where fighting over our potential money.  Kinda scary when you think about it.  Ok this strory isnt all that great and I left out a lot because you just had to be there to understand what it was really like but here is the kicker....

Ok the 3 of us there where kinda nervous I am 29 and my 2 buddies are older and we are not bitches by all means.  But like I said this puera rican just gave us the wrong vibe.  So we go talk to a security guy kinda joking but kinda serious asking if was safe to walk back to Fitzgeralds (yeah we are cheap).  So we talked to him for a few joking around, we all knew we where fine but proceeded with caution.  It is the wild west and another of my buddies got robbed in Vegas and broke his arm running from the dudes and then found a cop and the cop didnt even help him cause he was drunk.   So we go back to Fitz's and me and my cousing are playing craps  (other at bar) so as we are playing I see puera rican basically speed walking/running out the casino.  I point it out to my cousin then I go to tell my other buddy at the bar and before I can tell him he says "you see that shit"?  I say no what?  They just got robbed!  I say dude I just saw puerta rican run out of here.   DUDE ROBBED THE FUCKING CASINO!!!!  I knew this guy was bad news but I had no idea he was capable of this.  Looking back on it we shouldve been more cautious.  Shit is crazy there.  So dont buy weed in Vegas!!!

Thats crazy bro... I came across a lot of dealers in downtown trying to sell anything from weed to meth... One dude, a big black guy, tried to harass me to buy some crack from him as I walked out of a liquor store and I told him to step the fuck back... Right after that, he asked another guy and the guy shoved the dealer on the ground... was pretty funny... I dont think the guy was a dealer, as I dont think it was real crack cause the guy looked like a user, not a dealer...

Vegas is crazy compared to where I am from... People there just bust there drugs out in the open... One dude pulled out a bag, probably around a half ounce of weed,  right in the middle of the Freemont experience... I was like WTF!!! Suprised none of the cops seen that shit...

I got another gambling story... This one I turned my last $100 into a little under $4000 in about 4 hours.

Beginning bankroll was $4500 on a 6 day trip. My last day in Vegas and about 4 hours before I had to leave the California Hotel to get to the airport, I was on my last $100 bill. I sat at the $3 blackjack table with the 6 deck shoe. My strategy is always sit in the first seat if possible, if not then the last seat. I always play two hands, but if the dealer in on a hot streak I will switch to one hand to mix up the cards. It is just my strategy, and it usually works for me.

I sat in the first seat with only 2 other people on the table. Within a couple hours, I built my $100 into $1000. It was about 3 in the morning, and I had about a little less than 2 hours before I had to leave and I was pretty damn drunk. Since I was getting good cards on both my hands, I said fuck it and went all in playing two hands, $500 each. First hand was a blackjack and the second hand was an 11 with the dealer showing a 5 or 6, I dont remember. Doubled down on the second hand and bammm, got a 10. That shit was crazy. Just turned my $1000 into $2750 on one deal. From here, I started playing big. Playing hands of $200 each to $500 each, on a $3 table...haha. The table was full now and everybody on the table was asking me how they should play there hand cause they didnt want to screw me up since I was playing so big. It was funny cause I felt like a baller and was giving the waitress a $5 tip everytime she brought me another ddrink. I was tipping the dealer $25-$50 on the hands I won big on. By the time I had to leave, I was up a little over $4000. I gave the dealer another $100 and threw $25 to everybody on the table since they kind of helped me win more by playing by the book. That shit was crazy, I just turned $100 into about $4000 in 4 hours... I actually won more but I probably gave about $500 to the dealers and tipped about $150 between the players at the table and the waitress...

Left Vegas down about $500, but that last night is a gambling memory I will never forget. That shit was CRAZY!!!

 

100 to 4k now thats the fucking shit

Okay, I have to be careful here as I don't want to disparage a former co-worker and friend, but this is true.  When I lived in Vegas back in the late 80's, a compulsive gambler friend of mine came out to stay with me for a night or two.  I woke up at midnight and I heard my wife in my guest bedroom talking to him.  Concerned, I looked in.  They were counting 100 dollar bills, nothing else going on.  He had won 40 K betting 21 in one night at the Dunes (now imploded) and at the Flamingo even though he came into town with only 3 k.  He went onto California the next day to see his parents.  Once in Reno, he called me to wire him 4k, as I was slowly depositing his wins into my bank account to not trigger the 10 k reporting requirement. I was going to send him the winnings piecemeal later on.  Yes, there are some of us who are honest.  He said he won about 6 k in Reno and headed back to his mid west home.  Then, a casino shortly thereafter flew him to Atlantic City for a one night freebie.  There he won another 10 k in one day playing craps.  Now he is up about 56 k and he calls up and says they are flying him back to Vegas all on the house and he intended to take me and wife out on the town for an experience we would never forget.  He never called that day, so a day or two later, I called him.  Yes, they flew him in, but he lost the entire 50 k in one day before my wife and I ever got out of work that day.  He left immediately, not even staying one night.   

I know people exaggerate to make the story more interesting and I don't doubt this story is true, but how do you go all in with your last 1000 and double up on the second hand with no money left? 

Wow TDHPlays, that's some crazzzzy stuff there, but I could definately see that happening...I took about $1500 total to Sunset Station in Henderson (right outside LV) couple years back to play in a $1 million bingo blowout or whatever it was called. Put $400 on the over for the Saints/49ers game first thing, then proceeding to lose everthing like nobodies business without any excitement of winning at any point. Sitting in the hotel room watching the game, it was about 2 minutes left in game and I needed 11 more points on board to win. NO with the ball down by 8. On 4th and goal, they scored TD which had to be reviewed it was sooo close, SF I believe then kicks FG to win game. I'm jumping up and down thinking "second chance!"  Down a few hundred bucks again, proceeding to $5 Wheel of Fortune machine which I rarely ever touched (out of my confort range at time going $10 a pull), and hit 7, 5x, 5x for $7500! I'm thinking "HOLY S---! Thank you New Orleans!!!" Go to BJ table thinking I'm the man all of a sudden like I'm invincible, and go to $25 minimum table, again veryyyy rare. Betting approximately $50 hand. Down maybe $600, I think "last $400 in chips, LETS DO IT" and proceeding to win with a 16 in my hand. Rush of adrenaline kicks in! "Do it again!" I says to myself, same result. I think I had another 16 with dealer showing 8 maybe? Had that feeling to stay, dealer BUSTS! Next day, go to $.25 cent credit "Super Times Pay Poker," playing 10 hands (60 total credits with multiplier active, $15 a pop) got 5x multiplier, dealt 3 cards to Royal with pair of 10s. I alllllmost kept pair of 10s like I would do if it was only a 1 hand game instead of 10. Nope, changed to holding 3 cards to royal, then hit my only ever Royal Flush on a poker game for $5000. My girlfriend stepped away to use restroom, as I saw her walking back I'm yelling "COME HERE!" She's just as stunned as I was... It was the craziest story in my life being sooo close to $0 with that football game, to leaving Vegas with something like $12,000 in my pocket. Fellas and ladies, it feels SOOOO good to have a HUGE wad of bills in every demonination to were it wont fit in your pocket! 

The best part of your second story was being down $500 for the trip, but was still worth it. I think that's why most people gamble is that rush you feel when winning. 

bill702, If the first hand was the blackjack, then you get paid on the spot before second hand has action, so he can use that $ he just won that moment to double down.

Oh haha a dealer at sunset smacked my hand once for grabbing the chips before finishing my other hand figured it was a rule like on roulette. Makes it even better of a story now, because I learned something. Thanks

This story isn't about us winning or losing it's about what we saw happen in LV.  In the early 80's I took my wife on her first trip to LV, we stayed at the Golden Nugget foe 3 nights.  On the second night, about 2AM we're playing BJ, a guy really really drunk comes up throws 5 black chips on the table and starts betting $50.00 a hand.  It took him about 10 minutes to lose it, before he leaves the pit boss comes over and asks if he wanted a line of credit.  Of course he said yes, within 5 minutes he signed a marker for 5 grand, within 15 minutes he lost it all.  After he left the pit boss came over and said the sad part is he is going to wake up and not even know he owes us 5 G's.  Really despicable!!!!.

I got another one... This one was a $3600 swing in about an hour...

First night in Vegas for a 7 day trip with a bankroll of $4000... Took a seat in the first position at a $25 BJ table in the Cal Hotel. My friend took a seat next to me on the table. Cashed in $200 and within an hour, I was up to $2000 playing my usual 2 hands per deal. I was playing like $150-$200 a hand at that point. Was super drunk so I told my friend we should head up to the rooms. He said he was down a few hundred, so he was gonna play out the rest of his money. I said fuck it and decided to stay to keep him company.

Next thing I know, the pitboss comes over and starts talking poker stories with me. I wasn't really paying attention to my hands or my money, just basically playing the same amount on each hand whether I won or loss the previous hand. Next thing I know I barely had any chips left, and the pit boss wouldn't stop talking. Cashed in $1000 more. For some reason, once I start betting big I have a hard time going back to betting $25-$50 a hand, especially if I am losing. So I am still betting $ 200 a hand, which is basically $400 a deal, and the pitboss is still trying to talk to me. Guess what, I lose it all. Like an idiot, I cash in another $1000 thinking I can win it all back, all the while my friend is just shaking his head at me... haha. Pit boss finally walks away and now I can try to play without the distractions. Only problem, I was too drunk. Another $600 down, and my friend says he is back to about even. I decide to leave the table with him cause my luck had turned to shit. That shit was unreal... It was like the pitboss came and hit me with a cooler cause I was just getting hot and as soon as he started talking to me, my cards got cold... haha. I had to go to my room now down $1800 on the first night... a $3600 swing from being up $1800. My girl was pretty angry... LOL... couldnt really recover the rest of the trip cause I had to budget for 6 more days... Unreal..

But still, after it all, I had a shit load of fun... I just love Vegas... Haha

Not a really crazy story,but just the best BJ session I ever had..

I had checked into the Rio a few years ago and put $50 on one of the last preseason games Dallas and someone..Watched the first half and unpacked upstairs and the bet was losing..Said F it,I;ll go down to the book watch 2nd half and grab a couple beers and some food..I brought a $100 bill. with me.ready to just crash after flying all day.

On the way to the book I pass a $25 table and thought I'd play a couple hands to make back the losing football bet.I did not even sit down till after a few hands..One other player with a friend watching against a friendly woman dealer..

I can't remember how many hands I played,but was dealt 18's 19's 20's and BJ's and never had to make a decision untill 77 vs a dealer 8 if I recall? and I hit another 7...Splits and doubles all hit in my favor along the way..Eventually I lost 3 hands in a row and colored up around $800,must have given back $300 on the last hands at least, tipped the dealer well and she even commented that was a great run..The sky was the limit the way the cards were dealt out,but I didn't press too much as I kept waiting for the hammer to drop..but I was very cool with 8x my buy-in. (I normally buy-in with $200 at a $15 table and walk once I double buy-in).

By now the game was over once I got to the book,and of course the bet was a winner..My nicest first night in Vegas and pretty much by accident..had the football bet been winning,I may have passed right by that table..and only collected $100 for the night.

Sounds like you had a killer run James... Got to bet big to win big... as we say here in Hawaii... Go BIG or go HOME... LOL

 

I got a funny one...

I flew up to Vegas with 4 friends... We all just turned 21...

Once we entered the casino, we were all so excited to gamble we just gave the bell man our bags and went to the BJ table. Four of us sat down on the $5 BJ table, and our other friend went to bathroom. After about 15 minutes, our friend comes back from bathroom, but our BJ table was now full so he goes to another table. Ten minutes later, we see him walk away from that table and sit at another table. Another 10 minutes later, we see him switch tables again. Another 5 minutes pass and he's up and changing tables, again. The four of us are at the table cracking up. Next thing we know, he is just switching tables and not even sitting down anymore. He would walk up to a table throw down some money, play the hand, lose and then walk to another table and do the same thing... HAHA. Finally we called him over to our table when a seat finally opened. He sat down and said he just lost $500, all within less than an hour. He was bouncing between the roulette, BJ,and three card poker tables and pretty much lost every hand/spin... LOL... This shit was hilarious. It was like straight out of the movie Vegas Vacation with Chevy Chase... LOL...

I was staying at the Mirage during the 1st weekend of March madness this past season and was making a 5 team money line parlay for 2 dimes.  I told the ticket writer this and preceeded to tell him the five teams I wanted.

I started telling him I want Florida St moneyline. I want Cincinnati, NC St., Creighton and Georgetown.  Well he gives me Florida St money line, but he gives me the other 4 teams against the spread opposed to the moneyline.  I had a 5 teamer 1 against the money line and the 4 against the spread.  Right before the games started I thought the payoff seemed pretty damn high and I realized what he had done. 

I decided to ride it out and lo and behold the 4 teams against the spread covered the number and Florida St won against the money line and my ticket cashed for $28,660.

His mistake gave me probably an extra $10,000 to 15,000.

1) My first trip ever to Vegas was during NBA playoffs a number of years ago. Only brought $1000 spending money (which was supposed to cover gambling +eating/drinking/entertainment). As soon as I got to the hotel I threw $500 down on the first half of whatever the early basketball game was and lost. Knowing $500 wasn't really a reasonable amount to get me through a 4-day trip I figured what the hell and just threw the rest of it down on the 2nd half of the game. I wasn't really too excited about the prospect of having to hit an ATM and/or borrow money from friends the rest of the trip and the game wasn't looking good. If I can remember correctly it came down to the wire and in the typical "moose" fashion that you always seem to be on the wrong side of I actually won and was back up to my original $1000 (or close to it, as I can't remember what the juice was on the wager). I didn't lose another bet all trip and even after partying like crazy went home with about $3500 more than I came down with .

2) This past May I was in Vegas again for NBA playoffs and have another story from the first day of the trip. (This is one I'm not proud of as I almost never let drinking/partying get in the way of solid money management.)

We had a 9am flight to Vegas so were at the airport bar having a couple of casuals at 7am. This continued through the flight and when we arrived in Vegas we hit Caesars pool for the entire afternoon (continuing to drink of course). I remember coming back to the hotel room to shower and change before heading to the sportsbooks for the basketball games and my buddy saying to me "are you sure you want to bring all that money with you?" (I already had placed a couple of wagers on the early games, but looked at my wallet and there was about 4k in it still). Stupidly I said yes, and convinced him I wouldn't be dumb enough to blow it all in one night. We went to the bar at Public House in Venetian to watch first half of the early game (Celtics vs 6ers) and at this point we'd been going strong for a solid 9-10 hours. At least I only drink beer these days...can't imagine if this was hard alcohol. In any event, I lost my bet on that game as well as the couple of baseball games I had played so I was down a fair amount and it was only Friday on a Fri-Mon trip.

At the time I was actually still with it enough to say I'm done betting for the day and I'd re-group and give it another go the next day, so I didn't make any more bets...yet. We then went to Lagasse's Stadium, where we watched the end of that first game and then the Thunder/Lakers nightcap. I actually passed out during the incredible 6ers 2nd half comeback and missed a good chunk of the first half of the late game as well. Eventually I woke up, but obviously was still completely gone. I decided the last 5 minutes of the 2nd quarter was enough for me to make an educated 2nd half bet and said there was no way the Thunder were losing the game. I went to place my wager and the guy working in the sportsbook asked how much I wanted on the Thunder...I emptied my pockets and handed over the contents to him, which at this point after a few drinks was just under the 4k I had brought with me.

So there I was, drunk off my ass, putting close to 4k on the Thunder +0.5 for the 2nd half. Here's where the story gets "good". I was under the impression Oklahoma City was leading by 3 at half and thus they needed to maintain that margin for me to win my 2nd half wager. My buddy and I watched the entire 2nd half rooting for a Thunder 3+ pt victory, but the Lakers looked like they were going to spoil the party. In the end, the refs (ahem, I mean the Lakers) did end up winning by 3...I believe LA shot something like 45 free throws that game. I was crushed. Walked back to my hotel and didn't say a word and just passed out, thinking I had just lost one of the largest wagers I had ever made. Tossed and turned all night thinking about how I had just blown my entire bankroll for the trip in 1 day and wondering what I was going to do for the next 3 nights. After a virtually sleepless night, I found myself lying in bed in the morning and for some reason was compelled to fire up my laptop and check the box score. Blind hope I guess that somehow I had messed up on the score. Well guess what? I couldn't FRIGGIN BELIEVE IT! Turns out the LAKERS were actually up by 3 at half, and seeing as they won the game by exactly that margin...my Thunder +0.5 ticket was a winner and I will never, ever, forget the amazing feeling I had walking over from Caesars Palace back to Lagasse's Stadium in the Palazzo to claim those winnings and kickstart yet another amazing Vegas weekend

2 lessons: 1) Don't gamble while drunk, or if you're going to, ONLY BRING A SMALL PORTION OF YOUR MONEY OUT.

2) And perhaps more importantly: Don't be so quick to rip up your tickets. Maybe you made a dumb mistake like I did. Can you imagine if I had ripped that ticket up initially and essentially cost myself $7500? Wow.

If you mean drug dealers... I was approached on Fremont Street on the outskirts of the Fremont Experience right next to Mamacita's Mexican restaurant, but I doubt he was a real dealer, more like a drugee trying to sell some fake shit.  And then, under the lights of the Fremont Experience twice... LOL...

Last time we were there a black dude wearing all black (black pants, black shoes, black shirt, and a black leather jacket) approached us and asked if we needed some weed. My friend told him yeah and he busted out a baggie right under the lights of the Fremont Experience show and told us to follow him. I felt it was a sketchy deal and told my friend he should just wait for our other friend who lives in Vegas to meet up. The guy reminded me of Ice T in the movie New Jack City playing an undercover cop... Haha

So, here is my crazy story. Didn't end up perfect, but better than I was at one time. To start, I stayed at the Palms back in 2010 and happened to bring home a $25 chip by accident, so every time i've been back to vegas since, I've brought the chip with me just in case i ventured over there from the strip. Fast forward to February 2012, i'm at a work conference staying at Mandalay. I have a $2500 bankroll and a couple hundred left for cash advance on my credit card, just in case. I'm there for 3 nights and i'm losing on every hand and bet i make. Comes down to the last night, i'm out with co-workers absolutely hammered. I leave the bar at Wynn and venture to the BJ tables. A blurry amount of bets later and i'm pulling cash out on my credit card. I'm not exactly sure how much i have left but i know i'm near my limit. It's a little hazy, but i kind of come back to it trying to find a place to nap in a back hallway at the Wynn. All of a sudden I sober up a enough to realize that i should take a cab to mandalay. I go to the bank machine and attempt a $40 withdrawal, declined. $20 withdrawal...Approved, luckily. So i eventually get back to mandalay and walk up to a dealer i had met earlier at the roulette table and ask him to grab me a couple bottles of water as i'm sobering up and thirsty. He asks if i'm going to play and i tell him i'm broke, so no. I reach into my pocket and pull out the $25 chip from Palms and jokingly ask him if I put the chip on the table can they give me $10 in chips from mandalay? Dealer asks his pit boss and says i can exchange the $25 chip for mandalay chips straight up. a couple of spins of the wheel and i'm up to $110. I decide that i'm going to need some spending money for food etc and i need sleep so i leave. I'm passing by a $25 BJ table and i decide to sit down. Long story short, I turned the $110 into a $1000 chip in about 2 hours.

So, the $25 chip from 2 years prior basically saved me. sorry it took so long.

Haha next you're going to ask where all the downtown hookers are. I rarely go downtown, but every time I do I'm getting asked to buy something. Mostly coke though
