For all the Mark Reynolds haters....

JP hasnt even been in the Majors for a full year, Wieters has been around since 07? Still waiting for him to be an .800OPS+ catcher? You've used the words can be and waiting one to many times in your stalwart defense for Wieters. He's good, but definately hyped way to much and i think hes peaked out, this is as good as hes going to be.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are rolling now. They basically are the same team Baltimore is except the Dbacks play in a much weaker division. The Dbacks' hot streak can be partially attributed to Kelly Johnson getting hot. He is basically the same type of hitter Mark Reynolds is; high SO frequency and above average HR potential. 

Face it Jpero, Britton is probably the only bright spot for the O's. Guthrie is solid too but he ain't getting any younger.

Every year I come onto this site and hear Jpero tell everyone how they are going to be so improved but year after year they are pure garbage. I cant wait until the Jays stroll into Baltimore in a few days and smack them around.

Seeing Wieters was drafted in 2008 that makes 07 impossible.

This is Wieters 2nd full season, he has been in the majors for 2.5 years.

He is 25 years old and didnt work on his hitting and the Orioles coaches didn't work with him or touch anything to do with his hitting when he first came up and last year. This off season was the first year he worked on his offensive game and the first time the Orioles decided to tinker with his offense.

They did not want to touch anything after all his success in college and the minors. Wieters was getting into bad habits at the plate and they looked at past tape and got him back to old stance when he was having success.

He is more straight up now and went back to his leg kick, which helped his timing and kept his load back. He is not "attacking" the ball and has been hitting more balls the other way which is exactly what he was doing when he had all the success he experienced in college and the minors.

Let the whole year play out before you start crowing JP better when he has even had a full year. He is better, right now, with the bat but that is all. He has been pretty bad defensively and that is why Wieters is the better all around player.

Its pathetic that you guys are attacking me for saying Wieters as a .780 OPS catcher combined with his superior defense is a better all around player than Posey with an .825 OPS.

It shows that you are unable to grasp how much defense means to a ball club. And how a superior defensive player can have a lower OPS and still be a more valuable all around player.

I'd take Wieters over Arencibia prolly and Im a Jays fan but who cares, we have a better catcher then both of them in the minors Travis D'arnaud.

The point i was trying to make was, Wieters has had alot more time in the majors than JP. Whats more ignorant than me not checking that for my self is you stating JP is playing "pretty bad" defensively.

Brian Matusz hasn't pitched a game yet this season. He is the Orioles best pitcher. Funny how people don't even acknowledge they ahve been without their best pitcher all season.

Guthrie is a very underrated pitcher. He is not a #1 and might not even be a #2 pitcher but he is very underrated for what he provides. He has good stuff and knows how to pitch, he is very cerebral, and will give you 200 innings year in and year out. He has pitched fine the past few years and is under team control for one more year after this year.

I hope he is traded this trade deadline as he will be the best pitcher on the market and fetch a good package. However, there is no reason for the O's to trade him unless they are blown away by a package. Would love to see the Reds show interest and the O's get Alonso.

Arrieta is a quality guy. He might have the best stuff of all the young pitchers but his problem is his stuff is so good and has so much movement he can't control it. If he is able to get better control and hit his spots he can become very good.

Tillman has had his ups and downs but he is still only 23 and learning to pitch. His curve ball is Jim Palmeresque but he has trouble throwing it for strikes consistently so hitters are able to sit on his FB. His change is pretty good too but he needs to be more consistent with it. If he can develop pinpoint control he can be a very valuable middle rotation starter with his FB, Cutter, curve and change. If his control isn't pinpoint he can be a back end starter who has a 4.80ish ERA.

And before you say oh that sucks blah blah blah.... I think the White Sox back in 2007 or something were the last team to have a 5th starter with an ERA below 4.50.

He is playing pretty bad defensively. Sorry you dont agree.

You are underrating Wieters minor league stats. Wieters was the same age as D'arnaud when in AA and played in the Eastern League also.

Wieters demolished that league and the entire minors. Some people say Wieters had the best minor league season of any prospect in the history of minor league baseball.

JP has more power right now.....I haven't seen him catch very often,but watch the O's games a lot....Matt's defense is the best I've seen since Pudge @Texas ,or Bench or Sangullien from the Pirates back in the 70's..

Weiters game management,release,accuracy and blocking the plate is untouchable in the majors today from what I've seen...

An O's fan,no doubt,but not many guys his age would I take over Weiters today...

He said it about Tillman. He also said tht when he was Tillman's age he had the same problem controlling his curveball because it was soo good.

Its really unbelievable who great he is defensively. His catch release is the quickest in the game.

And to think when drafted everyone thought he would be a beast offensively but struggle defensively. The opposite has happened. He is already the best defensive catcher in the league and has been slightly above average offensively.

If he becomes even an .800 OPS catcher rather than the .900 OPS catcher he was projected to become.... Well with his defense that will probably make him a future HOFer if he has a long career while sustaining this defense.

Weither is hands down better than JPA defensively, no comparison what so ever. JPA has the better bat. When talking about a catcher the defense is more important, they are the quarterback of your team. I would take Weiters over JPA, but I think its too early in both players careers to compare them yet. give them 5 years then we can analyze

The amount of weiters and O's love in here has just gone from ridiculous to obsessive. I really don't know what to say as it seems you have some kind of meaningless stat or professional scouting opinion from your own eyes to defend EVERY O's player..
