I noticed the new thing is people betting live plays.....by the time you put your live play in and then post it the line could have changed 5 times by the time someone could actually read your post and then try to put it in themselves! So stop waiting your time posting live plays!
How bout you stop wasting your time telling people how to run their thread.

Nice thread! I really am waiting for this one. Almost every match Portland trails in first half so I have taken 1st half Hawks -3.5 for a very small play. Hope hawks win this one and also against GSW.

The Jazz and the Pelicans are tied for my worst capping nightmares, I cant win either way with these teams so I probably wont touch this game because those stupid birds are involved.
You think Hawks could have a big letdown in this one?

Really interested to hear your take on this.

-A review of the 1st game. Thabo was out for ATL with Gordon out for N.O. This was ATL's 14th game and the 1st game that started this impressive stretch of dominance. This game was a defensive slugfest for 3 quarters (Hawks 64 Pels 51) before an explosive 4th where 74 points were scored. The Hawks held a comfortable lead throughout the game and were never in fear of losing. I was at this game and the thing that impressed me the most was the defensive play against Davis. Most will look at the boxscore and see 5/14 from Davis and assume he had an off-night. The reality is the Hawks did a great job of scheming to make Davis's time difficult and they succeeded in doing so. The teams were even in combined rebounds while the Pels had 16 offensive boards to the Hawks 11.
-I think people will overrate the last game for each of these teams. They will see that the Hawks won a very close game against the 76ers and think wow they are struggling. The truth is, this was a back to back for the Hawks and they were up by 15 at the half before the 76ers caught fire from 3 in the second half. The Pelicans just beat the Clippers without Davis. They did this by shooting 52% from 3 and scoring 29 pts more from 3 + FT than the Clips.
Keys for tonight
-Carroll is in New Orleans and his status has been updated to questionable tonight. I am going to assume that he won't play for now. I expect the absence of Carroll/Thabo to prove costly but I don't think it will have a big effect tonight.
-N.O.'s lack of an offensive threat at SF. The Pelicans don't have the personnel to really take advantage of the absence of Carroll/Thabo. Dante Cunningham will start at SF and Pondexter will come off the bench. I expect Bazemore to get matched up with Evans while Korver draws the SF assignment.
-Rebounding. This is where Carroll/Thabo's absence will be noticed. The Hawks are undersized and rely on a team effort for rebounding. Carroll and Thabo help out a lot from the SF position and they will be missed in this area. The Hawks are going to have to fight hard to keep Davis/Asik off the glass. I think they will manage to do ok but this could potentially be a problem.
-Teague. Teague hasn't scored 20+ in 9 straight games. He had 26 in the first meeting and I expect him to have a big night tonight. I have no faith in Gordon's ability to stay in front of Teague. While being cold in shooting, Teague has been very good on defense over the past two months. Teague is quick and strong and I expect him to do a great job of defending Gordon. Teague wins the PG matchup tonight.
-Coaching. Top 3 coach in the league vs Bottom 3 coach in the league. I'm confident that Bud will have find the correct schemes to slow down the Pels offense. I have no confidence in Monty doing anything.
This Pelicans team is young and they aren't disciplined enough to consistently guard the Hawks movement for 48 minutes. They will have breakdowns and the Hawks will benefit from them. Teams that heavily depend on one or two players have done very poorly against the Hawks this season as Bud is a great tactician and finds ways to make life hard for these players. I expect Bazemore/Korver to provide extra help on the boards while Antic leaves Horford open from midrange. The loss of Thabo and possibly Carroll will likely cost the Hawks some games, but I don't think it happens tonight.
Hawks -3 -119 MEDIUM
I will likely end up making this one a large play. Going to wait for the final status of Carroll before adding anything else.

One thing I noticed from last game vs the pelicans was 18 turnovers. I went back and watched all 18 turnovers. It was a lot of lack of focus on the Hawks part. I saw 4 travels, 3 offensive fouls, a palm, and a hand full of bad passes. And they still won by 9.
Hawks have only had 1 game with that many turnovers since (blowout to the bucks).
The Pelicans aren't exactly a shutdown defense. They're 8th worst in defensive efficiency and only the Bulls and Kings have a lower turnovers forced rate.

I agree. People tend to be using the Pels wins vs the Mavs and Clips as evidence of their ability to beat the Hawks tonight.
The Pels were great in 3pt%, Free throws made and turnovers lost in those games.
vs Mavs 47% from 3, 21 FTs made, 9 TO's
vs Clips 52% from 3, 23 FTs made, 8 TO's
I'm willing to bet that the Pels perform worse in each of these 3 categories tonight. The Mavs and Clips have also played poorly against the better teams of the league while ATL has dominated these teams. The Mavs and Clips are not comparable to the Hawks.
With all of the love for N.O., this will definitely be a large play for me tonight.

Look for John Jenkins to get some playing time tonight. He's not near the defender that Bazemore/Carroll/Thabo are but he is the second best shooter on the team. Jenkins can light it up in a hurry and people may end up screaming who in the hell is John Jenkins by nights end.
I wish I would have waited to make my play as it cost me some juice earlier.
A large is twice the size of a medium so tonight's play will be a large.
ATL -3 -119 MEDIUM
ATL -3 -105 MEDIUM
5dimes is offering live bets on tonight's game and I will be on the hunt for an in game opportunity if one presents itself.

Nice Teague prop, I think Bud adjusts in the second half.
Waiting to see the line might jump on the Hawks then, not watching the game tho....is it a good move?
The Hawks should make a game of it. They cant play any worse than they did in the first. Teague and Schroder are getting in the paint when they won't but the Hawks have been settling for jumpers and bricking all of them. They should look inside more in the 2nd half.
I expect the defense to tighten up some as well.

I lost a good bit on Monday and I'm not in a rush to give back more of my prior winnings. During January, the Hawks played 17 games in 30 days and their defense has been suspect over the past 5 games. It looks like they have tired legs and the loss of Thabo has been a big factor.
I'm going to take a break from betting for the weekend and possibly until after the all-star break. Over the next 3 games, I will be interested to see how this team adjusts for the loss of Thabo and if they can regain their previous level of defense.
The Hawks should win tonight if they come to play like they can. The Wizards have lost 3 in a row and should be desperate for a win tonight. The SE division race will be officially over with a win tonight.
I think the Hawks win tonight, no clue about the GSW game and I'm leaning towards a Hawks loss on Sunday vs Memphis.
Can't wait to watch GSW vs ATL on Friday at Phillips. Should be a great one if both teams bring their best effort. The NBA needs to figure out a way to air this one on national tv.
