2015 Miami Dolphins thread

You pretty much summed everything up. Jason Fox...god Awful The entire line is awful. It's going to be interesting to see now that Lazor is gone how the play calling goes with Zac Taylor.

The Dolphins don't need sexy picks next season. Get the o-line, solid corners, and linebackers next season. I don't care if it's through the draft or free agency just get some. We don't need no WR's, we have running backs that are fresh because the run game is non existent for some reason this season, hell trade for the entire Cowboys o-line lol.

Anyway looks like the house cleaning is moving along in the Dolphins household with Lazor gone....Any thoughts or suggestions on who the Head coach will be next season?

Starting with the QB:

All the physical tools. Big, athletic. Strong arm that can drive the deep out from the far hash. Has shown improvement hitting the deep ball with accuracy this year. Throws the level 1 (trajectory) seam rout consistently. Mike Wallace was a cancer and major contributor to the lack of deep ball efficiency last year. Stills not much of an improvement as he's dropped several.

Tannehill has been an ascending player for 4 years culminating in last years numbers. Has not taken a major step forward from last year though much can be attributed to those placed around him. Has shown improvement hitting the deep ball this year hitting 7 of 8 last 6 games. Had to overcome a coach that lost with Brett Favre and is now coaching high school (Mike Sherman), another head coach (Philbin) that only got the job because he was titled off cord in Green Bay though never calling plays, and a second cord in Lazor that was nondescript at Virginia. Lazor's glaring negative in his last moments as off cord was continually calling the out breaking routes (comebacks and outs) at the first down marker on 3rd and longs. After completing two at the start of the NE game, the db sat on the 3rd and ran the rout for the wr. Since that game, db's have been doing the same. The int vs the Jets though was completely on Tannehill as he was late on the throw and the ball placement was behind. Bottom line Lazor didn't excel as a play caller.

Tannehill shows proficiency in the 2 min drill and in the short passing game. Today's NFL is a horizontal, ball control short passing game. Obviously there are other ways to win (Newton in Caro, Kaepernick in SF couple of years ago, Russell Wilson in Sea) but this style of play in my opinion is a trait commonly shared by guys like Brees, Brady (after Randy Moss, but obviously, Brady won with the vertical passing game too), P Manning, etc. Tannehill shows a really good command of where to go with the ball and throws it with rhythm and accuracy. He set an NFL record with consecutive completions this year, and that included a deep ball to Stills, a seam to Jordan, a corner by Jennings, and a deep out to Landry. A bunch of those throws were legit throws. This was no aberration as last year vs Denver he set the consecutive high in '14 up to that point (don't know if it lasted to the end of the year).

He's managed to be an ascending player while overcoming the incompetence at coaching and a poor offensive line. His wr core was Hartline, Wallace and Brandon Gibson last year. Landry has emerged at slot and Tannehill is on the same page as Rishard Matthews who is going to get paid this off season. Number one pick Devante Parker has battled injuries but has shown signs. I want to know whose decision it was to trade a three for Kenny Stills. The front office cluster fuk makes it hard to know who is accountable for which decision. Stills has dropped several deep balls and overall looks like a bust of a move. It looks like they made a mistake of going with Cameron over Clay. Cameron couldn't high point a football vs a tiny corner which led to an int and has missed blitz pick ups resulting in sacks.

For as much as he gets hit, he's a tough son of a gun and always gets up and barely coughs up the ball on strip sacks. Generally makes good decisions and doesn't turn the ball over though several have come this year deflecting of the wr or the wr falling.

His major deficiency is he doesn't use his athleticism pro actively in the pocket when a free runner shows to avoid sacks. Doesn't scramble. Almost looks like he's trying to stay in the pocket on purpose. He has shown some improvement from last year in this department but not as much improvement as he's shown throwing the deep ball.

Overall an ascending young qb that is on the edge of top third of the league and looking at guys like Carr, Bortles, Winston, (Mariota ?) who will be fighting to separate themselves. I see them ahead of guys like Bridgewater, Cousins, A Smith, Kaepernick, Bradford. Continue to add talent around him on the OL and get him a legitimate offensive mind, not some guy getting his first crack at it. Moving on from guys like Tannehill to find the generational qb that gives it to you right away is a crapshoot. Tannehill has shown enough that you stay with him going forward. I'm sure Tannehill would be loved in St Louis and Houston and would make those teams playoff teams.

who would you take over tannehill going forward?

YES:

Brady, Roethlisberger, Luck, maybe Eli, Rodgers, Stafford, Cutler,

Newton and Russell Wilson are in a different category for me as they don't execute the short, ball controlled passing game.

yes for today, not going forward:

Rivers, Romo, Eli, Brees, Palmer,

Maybe or on Same Level:

Flacco

Dalton (weren't crazy about him last year. has the perfect situation in Cinci with plus OL and skill group)

Matt Ryan maybe at the top of this group and trying to catch Safford and they probably swap places at times in the pecking order.

Carr, Bortles, Winston, Mariota

we'll count Eli as a yes for arguments sake, but only count one between Newton or Wilson. thats 2 plus the definitive yes' 6 puts you at 8 in front of Tannehill. Go ahead and count Flacco, Ryan, Stafford as guys ahead of Tannehill. Right now I have Tannehill ahead of Winston, Carr, Dalton, Bortles, Mariota

Still disagree on Tannehill but agree on many of yur points. You talk about playoffs but in my view you have to go for the chip and that means an elite QB. Wallowing in mediocrity doesn't cut it. I'd prefer to start over lose and search for an elite QB. SF is a good example where Harbaugh saw that Smith wasn't going to get him there so he tried w Kappernick.

As I've discussed w wake several times, from my perspective Tannehill just doesn't have the it factor. I watched him at A M and game after game he showed all the skills got his team off to big leads and then at cruch time he folded.

Go back to jax game this year. Tied at the end of the game and here's a chance to pull out a game you've been outplayed in (sign of a good team quality QB). The Golden rules of the last minute drill book (written by Stabler and Staubach) r start off w a good play and don't take a sack. What does Tannehill do take a sack on first play. Well of course yall blame the line but guess what. Tannehill knew or should have known and made adjustments. That same day another former Aggie who does have the it factor (but not the physical skills) was faced w the same situation but he felt the pressure and was able to make a play.

Football is a game of inches and I could cite example after example where 1 play turned the direction of a game, season, etc. every play matters. Yesterday the turning point of the game was the play you referenced and that was all on Tannehill.

Bottom line is I see the talent but not the it factor u need to be an elite QB.

You too man, thanks for all you added to the thread over the years. It is just getting too frustrating to deal with this team on a day to day basis when they have disappointing me for 15 straight years.

I want Sean Payton to be the head coach, and Dan Campbell to stay on as an assistant. I really like the guy. Other than Payton I want Gruden or Cower, obviously just a dream. Other than those 3 I really have no idea who I want.

I saw a post by a Dolphins fan recently that sums up how I feel about this team going forward..."The Dolphins hype can be in the clearance bin at 95% off, and I'm still never buying it again."

Thats how I feel right now. Like I said I'm a realist. For this team to be 4-7 with the talent they had going into this year is just not acceptable. A roster needs 53 good players to be good. Not 47 average to good players and 6 BUMS.
