Ya the population of the region doesn't mean much if 90% of the people in that region would rather watch fishing shows or lawn bowling than the sport in question on their television sets.....

Absolutely it would work and if let's be clear if the measuring stick is places like Florida, Carolina, Arizona and others where no one is at the arena despite dirt cheap tickets and where no one is watching on TV then what exactly is it being held up against?? The little scumbag wants nothing to do with Canada unless they can pay for more of his empty arenas in useless locations as he relentlessly tries to force the sport down the throats of his target regions..

Look guys, according to The Hockey Guy, Canada will not have a new hockey team because of the salary cap and trouble making money for the team.

If you could do some simple Googling you would see the fat contracts that NBC signed for you.

It means enough for the owners to put teams where there are huge populations. If not we would of seen another team in Canada. They put teams where they get the huge paydays.  Attendance doesn't mean squat anymore.

Lipps again..... NBC paid 1.9 Billion for 10 years and Rogers paid 5.2 Billion for 12 years. What huge NBC deal are you talking about? Canada provides the revenue for the NHL. And this despite Canadian teams having no success at all. If many American teams don't win there is zero interests in many cities. Case in point the Pittsburgh Penguins who when they finished dead last in the NHL also finished dead last in attendance in the league and NO ONE was watching on TV, the team was literally abandoned and a non factor. Enter Sydney Crosby being gifted to the them by the league to save their franchise for the second time. No success = No fan support.

NBC 1.9 Billion vs Rogers 5.2 Billion

On the topic of team revenues this is not NFL, NBA or MLB. Revenue trumps TV in the NHL, the other sports no but hockey yes.. Do have any idea what a Toronto Maple Leaf home game earns?? The amount made off concessions is of another world.

The top 12 teams alone last season had a revenue haul of over 2 Billion combined which is more than what the NHL gets from NBC for that entire 10 year deal.

PB again, if there was more money in Canada then the teams would be there.  There is a reason the league has grown like it has without expansion in Canada.

Personally I want to see another couple of teams there. But it's just not going to happen.  Also once again it doesn't make a damn about attendance anymore, not sure why this can't be comprehended.

The last year the pens won the cup they made 251 million in gate and conessions revenue and 16 million off their tv deal.

The Leafs making the first round that season made 253 million off revenue and 40 million of their tv deal.

Ofcourse without the nhl "making sure" teams like pittsburgh have success there would be no tv deal and no people in the arena because there are no actual fans of the sport there,  just followers of winning. Ofcourse they are growing because ontop of all the real fans in cities they make sure lose that they get huge tv deals and massive revenues from no matter what because they will watch the sport they love regardless of success. They "create" success in cities where there must be success for fans to watch therefore piling ontop of the gauranteed money with created money from fairweather fans. The lawyer is not stupid I won't accuse the goof of that. Crooked and and immoral but not stupid. There are false franchises however where buildings are empty and the tv deals are a a joke but he is intent on trying to force the game on places where it will never work despite gifted success like in Carolina.

The market ceiling in Canada has been maxed out for 100 years.  The idea to bring in gary was for the game to expand in the U.S.  The plan wasn't to expand in Canada because all that does is dilute the market we have here.  But that doesn't mean the owners are succeeding with their fairy tale plan of robbing Canadian Paul to give to American Peter.  The success gary talks about is only in his mind and the gullible people he is conning.  There are no "fat" contracts from U.S television and there will never be "fat" contracts doled out.  It is all a mirage.  nhl = WWE

tell me again that gary was brought in and is being paid $9,000,000 a year "to listen and do what the owners say" so I can have a good laugh again.  He just shuffles some papers and gets the owners coffee and occasionally faxes something.  Unbelievable.

The first 2 things gary did 25 years ago was abolish fighting and get a hard salary cap.  His plan wouldn't succeed if these 2 things weren't accomplished.  If fighting was still in the game, it would be impossible for the league to fix games. I hope I don't have to explain this.  The salary cap was crucial also because with no cap, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg would buy up all the talent available and win cups like they've been doing since 1896.  They would be the Yankees, Red Sox and Dodgers of hockey.  Go back to bed sheep.

gary and the pointy head owners didn't want clutching and grabbing which eventually turned into touching another player to "increase the speed of the game."  No other major sports made changes to their rules, so did their game slow down or are the athletes faster than ever?  Go drink your warm milk.

When Gary hangs it up after his contracts is over you will see another put in place that will do the same thing.
