NO SUSPENSION OR FINE FOR CHARA'S HIT ON PACIORETTY

your right its not the same type of hit..also due to each others reputations its a different situation.

like i have said many times. it was not an illegal hit. it was an illegal play, as proven by the interference call (the puck wasn't even in sight) which resulted in a serious injury.

in the real world, if you drink and drive you intent is obviously not to injure someone but if you do, you are penalized. the individual has to be held accountable for his actions something the nhl never does.

how is it that if a player falls down but his stick hits someone in the face he gets called for high sticking? that was not his intent but its reckless handling of your stick.

you like others, which is understandable, are looking at this as an isolated incident. if this was between wideman and richards, i agree bad luck but still a reckless hit which deserves a fine and suspension of 1 or 2 games.

however, i like many habs fan, feel strongly this was not simply a hockey play. we have seen time and time again..chara taking shots at habs players throughout the years whether it be kovalev, latendresse, kostitsyn etc. after pacioretty shoved chara in a 3-2 OT win the bruins made him their target. they expressed it to jimmy murphy who told the world on the radio yesterday. they wer all upset and wanted him to pay.

next game what happens? chara slashes max so hard he has to leave the ice. later in the game he attacks him from behind.

so you can see why this whole situation seems way too convenient for chara to simply say i have never done anything dirty so do not penalize me. there is obviously tension between the two. do i feel like chara wanted him to leave on a stretcher? no...i doubt any players do. but that is not a reason to give him a pass.

and yes even if pacioretty wasnt injured i would have liked at least 1 game...i completely disagree that this was simply a hockey play because of chara's prior actions towards max.

I was at the game and let me offer these comments.

1) Chara is no goon but he clearly wanted to push Pacioretty into the glass corner

2) Chara is a 6'10' monster

3) Habs were outclassing the Bruins with little chance that the Bruins could come back

4) It was clear even before the hit that something was going to happen, a fight, a head shot, something

5) Chara did not hit Pax with the intent the break his neck

6) Chara hit Pax with the intent to throw him in to the turnbuckle body first and not head first

7) NHL sucks and making the right calls. Chara or anyother FIRST TIME offender should have been handed a 5 game suspension. There was an intent to hurt....just not mame!

8) How can you respect a league that doesnt protect its premier assety Sidney Crosby or up and coming stars like Pacioretty

9) You kill someone on purpose, its called murder, you kill someone by accident its called manslaughter. Both  you go to jail for. Chara deserved quiet time of at least 5 games .

10) Karma will come back to hurt the Bruins. I say Tim Thomas gets run into nicely the next time these 2 teams play. Goalie Interferience is only a 2 minute penalty and wont result in a game suspension I suppose.

Everyone continues to say this league will only learn when someone dies and honestly I thought yesterday was it.

Montreal was supposed to change the boards and glass in the arena because it has no give and everyone complains about it and guess what..it has not happened.

It's this wait and see approach and react only when something disastrous occurs type of attitude that is just mind boggling...I just don't get it.

Gary Bettman will go through any lenght to make sure hockey does not die in Phoenix and Atlanta but seems to do nothing about the possiblity of a player dying on the ice.

I don't think he should of been suspended, but I really thought he was going to get a couple of games for it.

And as with the other posters, when you look at in slo mo, like they just kept showing it looks much worse.

Oh, forgot the 2nd part to your question.  In todays rules since he was going for the puck it would be interference.  But yes, if you check someone going for the puck it can and will be called interference sometimes. Not all the time mind you, just depends on who is wearing the armbands.

And once again, I don't think it was an intent play.  It was bang, bang and he was at the wrong place at the wrong time.  No matter where on the ice Chara was, he would of cut off the other player like that

You watch enough pucks don't you.  That's the way he plays....He is out of control and not in the correct place a good amount of the time.  He's always throwing his arms out checking and pushing like that.  I don't know what all the love is for this guy.  I think it's just the giant thing.

You remind me of those two Boston reporter who made fun of Pat Hickey for an article he wrote saying "if this isn't a weasly French Canadian, I don't know what is." It never occured to the guy that Hickey is an Irish name and on top of that the guy is American.

If your excuse for why I think Chara should be suspended is simply because I am a Habs fan..what is the reason for Pierre Lebrun, Bob McKenzie, Elliotte Friedman, Pierre McGuire, Tony Massarotti ( a writter in the fuckin Boston Globe) Stu Hackel...the list goes on my friend...why do they feel no suspension was a poor decision?

There has to be a redesign of  the edges of the glass on the benches and the boards in general.  Players are just too big and fast now.  Adding that they have equipment of iron now it's just too much. 

I compare my equipment to the stuff now and it's a joke. There is no fear charging into players.  With the flap jackets and such the charging player doesn't even feel anything........

Edges, boards, helmets and glass.......all need to be looked at.

I must admit that I do find it weird, even all those guys I mentioned, wanted about a 2-3 games suspension for Chara and almost everyone in Montreal wanted much more. Crazy fans to analysts on french or english radio...

This rarely ever happens. Ya, people like to rag on Hab fans for always being dramatic whatever, but the idiots are always the loudest. But with this everyone wanted much more than 2 games. I just don't get how there was that much of a difference in opinion.

I thought the fact that there was history between these players would certainly get Chara into trouble. I mean if we go to court and I can list off examples like I have in previous posts of Chara taking liberties at ex-Habs and then Pacioretty..I am pretty sure I could win the case.

Regardless of his intent, it was a reckless play and in the real world you get punished for that.

I feel for his mother..she was at the game and apparently needed some medical attention. Heard a couple callers say they had to leave the game because their young kids were crying thinking he was dead. Majority of emails to hosts were from parents saying they don't want their kids playing hockey because of this..

It's just getting worse and worse...like Lipps said, equipement especially those elbow pads need to be looked at but it starts at the top and we know it will be a very long time before they ever do something about it.

If he can never play again I would think something will have to be put in place.  But the Steve Moore/Todd Bertuzzi fiasco has hung around way too long.  What the hell is still holding that thing up ?

Moore has not even stated his case yet in court I believe and Bertuzzi is suing the Nucks cause Crawford told him to go out there and do something about it.
